Resolution 1441 • UN weapons inspectors had been kicked out of Iraq in 1998. • Fall 2002 – US pressured UN to address Iraq’s “failure to comply” with UN • Nov. ‘02 – Jan. ’03: UN inspectors found nothing • US claimed Iraq was still hiding WMDs from inspectors • Details on pages 22-23 Make note of the above.

Moment of Decision, Feb-Mar 2003 • Read all of pages 26-27, except the very last paragraph. • Take notes on the following: • What happened on Feb. 5th of 2003? • Who made the presentation to the UN? • What did he claim? • What was the opinion of the UN in regards to Iraqi weapons inspections? • What was the opinion of the US in regards to Iraqi weapons inspections? • What was the “coalition of the willing”? • What was the “fundamental shift in US policy”? • What role did patriotism play?
