  1. Creating a Brochure with MS WORD Revised by V. Harmon from a Power Point Presentation by Ray Hoger ICT Coordinator Medicine Hat Catholic Board of Education

  2. A brochure in Word 2000 is made up of a series of panels

  3. Before You Begin • Gather all the information required to prepare your brochure • data (jot notes) from web sites, encyclopedia’s, magazines, newspapers etc. • images from web, clip art, scanning etc. should be in a common location (images folder for example) • Ensure you have access to computer with Office 2000 (Citrix users have Office 2003)

  4. Layout Your Brochure • On a sheet of paper sketch out where your data and images will go. • Use the two images at left to visualize how the pages will look when folded and how you must place the material.

  5. Notes on Images • When you insert an image, you will see it surrounded by a black box with black squares in the corners and sides. A picture toolbar should appear (if not, click View > Toolbars > Pictures) • Click the Text Wrapping icon Continued on next slide

  6. Image Notes Continued • From the text wrap choices available, choose TIGHT. • Notice how the black box and black squares (called handles) have disappeared • White handles now appear and text will flow around the image.

  7. 3 Column Brochure Step 1 • open Word 2000 (Start > Programs > Microsoft Office Tools > Microsoft Word choose paper size and select landscape • DO NOT click OK

  8. 3 Column Brochure Step 2 • click on the margins tab and set your top and bottom margins to 2.54 cm (1 inch) set left and right margins to 1 cm (0.39 inches)

  9. 3 Column Brochure Step 3 • Choose Format > Columns • select 3 columns • Spacing between columns must be twice the left/right margins • spacing = 2 cm (.78 inches • Click OK

  10. 3 Column Brochure Step 4 • Notice in the image below how your ruler will look in Word. (The dotted lines will not appear—they are here to direct your eyes only.) • The left and right margin markers will appear only in the active column—column 2 in the image below. There is no need for you to adjust or change these markers.

  11. 3 Column Brochure Step 5 • Begin keying in your material, inserting images, in the left most column. When you are ready to move to the next column, choose Insert > Break and click in the Column Break radio button. Click OK and your cursor is moved to the top of the next column.

  12. 3 Column Brochure Step 6 • The program will start a new column automatically • if you key in enough material to reach the bottom of one column the program will start at the top of the next column automatically, just as it starts a new page automatically when you have enough text on one page. • When you are ready to begin a new page, hold down the control key and press enter. • a new page is started • the 3 column setup continues from the first page to the second page

  13. You should now be ready to create your special brochure.
