  2. Athletic Requirements • Physical • Sports Contract • Proof of Insurance Without you do not get to compete/try-out for any sport

Fall Sports • Fall Sports • Will start about the first/second week of school • Volleyball • You must try-out there is only an A/B team • Girls Only • Cross Country • Best coach in the school • The most fun sport of all Morton’s sports • Ask seventh graders about the Gatorade challenge • Boys & Girls practice together • Football • There are several teams • Most kids make the team • Boys & girls can participate

Winter Sports • Girls Swimming – • This will begin after the fall sports • Allgirls make the team • Boys Basketball – • This will begin after the fall sports • You must try-out for the team • There will be cuts • Girls Basketball – • This will begin after girls swimming • You must try out for the team • There will be cuts • Boys Swimming – • This will begin after boys basketball • Allboys make the team • Wrestling – • This is at the same time as girls basketball/boys swimming • Most girls and boys make the team

  5. Spring Sports • Soccer • Girls and Boys soccer is played at the same time • You must try-out for the sport • There is an A/B team for both boys & girls • Track • There is a girls and boys track team • They are at the same time/practice together

  6. Eligibility For Sports • Grades • No pass = No play • NEW rule this year • Behavior • You must have good behavior • No coach wants someone on the team that is consistently disruptive in the classroom • Teams that make cuts have cuts based on behavior

Schedule 84minute classes 6th Grade Schedule at Morton • 1 teacher for core subjects • Elective teachers • Panther Success • Music • PE • 45 minutes every other day 7th grade Schedule at Morton • Teachers • 4 math teachers • 2 social studies teachers • 3 reading teachers • 2 science teachers • 3 language arts teachers • Elective Classes • Career Tech = 1 semester • Computer Applications = 1 semester • FCS = 1 semester • Art = 1 semester • Music – Band/strings/chorus = 2 semesters • HGD = 1 semester • Panther Success = 1 semester • AVID Elective Class • PE = 1 semester • 90 minutes every other day for a semester

  8. Schedule • A day = 4 classes • B day = 4 classes • Elective classes • 1 quarter = ½ of a semester ($.25) • August – October • 1 semester = half a year ($.50) • August – December • January - May • 2 semesters = entire year ($1.00) • August – May

Homework • Homework will probably increase • Skills to help you be successful • Take advantage of re-doing tests/quizzes • Complete homework everyday • Use agenda • Use binder • Take Cornell notes • Even if the teacher does not require it • Have the supplies you need for class DO NOT PROCRASTINATE!!!!

Friendships • The probability of you being with the same group of friends in every class is slim! • You may have a class or two with a friend from 6th grade • You will not have every class with your friends • Drama • Seventh grade drama is about the same as 6th grade drama • There are more students in the seventh grade • 6th grade = 52 students • 7th grade = 275 students • If you follow the skills we learned in counseling you will not have any trouble.

  11. Grades • Grading system is the same as 6th grade • Standards Based Grading • Take advantage of re-doing tests/quizzes • Complete homework everyday • Use agenda • Use binder • Have the supplies you need for class • TAKE CORNELL NOTES!!! • Ask for help DO NOT PROCRASTINATE!!!!

Seventh Grade Field Trips • In the past every seventh grader has had the opportunity to go to the Christmas Carol. • Athletics – you will leave at 1:50 for away games & 2:20 for home games • AVID • In the past AVID students have gone to the career center • In the past AVID students have visited at least one college
