  1. Broadband Wireless access including RLANs & ad-hoc Networking Presenter: Adrian Scrase ETSI Chief Technical Officer (CTO)

  2. Current Activities in TC DECT DECT New Generation • Offers a combination of telephony and data services, supports wide-band voice-over-ip and provides internet connectivity. DECT Ultra Low Energy (ULE) • Allows a battery life time of up to 10 years. The first Technical Specification covering home control has been published. DECT based M2M communication • To further improve the DECT capabilities for the support of machine-to-machine communication and to develop additional application profiles.

  3. Current Activities in TC BRAN • EN 301 893 v1.7.1 – 5 GHz RLAN standard Was updated to improve the intrasystem sharing and to accommodate new generation of RLAN technology using wide band / high data rate channels (IEEE 802.11ac). • Global sales of RLAN (WIFI) equipment are expected to reach 3.5 billion in 2014. • There is a growing trend toward mobile data offloading to smaller, often Wi-Fi based cells. • Wi-Fi supports an important share of overall internet traffic in Western Europe and this share is anticipated to grow to 60% of total internet traffic by 2016. • Wi-Fi is expected to become increasingly important in providing direct wireless device-to-device connectivity as a substitute for fixed connectivity such as HDMI and USB. • Wi-Fi devices are considered to support the anticipated increase in mobile data volumes (18 fold between 2011 and 2016).

  4. Current Activities in TC BRAN • EN 301 598 v1.1.1 – White Space Devices in UHF Wireless Access Systems operating in the 470 MHz to 790 MHz frequency band; Harmonized EN covering the essential requirements of article 3.2 of the R&TTE Directive • It is expected that BRAN will finish the final draft for submission into the ETSI ENAP by June 2013

  5. Current Activities in TC ERM • ETSI EN 300 328 v1.8.1 “Electromagnetic compatibility and Radio spectrum Matters (ERM); Wideband transmission systems; Data transmission equipment operating in the 2,4 GHz ISM band and using wide band modulation techniques; Harmonized EN covering the essential requirements of article 3.2 of the R&TTE Directive” • new version published in June 2012 and has been cited in the Official Journal of the European Union. • Changes made to accommodate new applications that entered the 2.4 GHz band and to improve sharing among all these applications
