  2. Matthew 2:1-12After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem 2 and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”3 When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. 4 When he had called together all the people’s chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Messiah was to be born. 5 “In Bethlehem in Judea,” they replied, “for this is what the prophet has written:6 “‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah,    are by no means least among the rulers of Judah;for out of you will come a ruler    who will shepherd my people Israel.’”

  3. 7 Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from them the exact time the star had appeared. 8 He sent them to Bethlehem and said, “Go and search carefully for the child. As soon as you find him, report to me, so that I too may go and worship him.”9 After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. 10 When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. 11 On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. 12 And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route.

  4. A)The wise men found Him for they were intent on seeking Him

  5. Isaiah 55:6 Seek the Lord while he may be found;    call on him while he is near.

  6. Jeremiah 29:13You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart

  7. Matthew 7:7-8“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

  8. Matt 7:6“Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.

  9. ElieWeisel's book , “The Night” He writes of his own search for God. He asks his Rabbi, Moishethe Beadle for help. Moisheanswers, “Man comes closer to God through the questions he asks him.....therein lies true dialogue, man asks and God replies. But we don't understand his replies.”Elie then asks Moishe, “Why then do you pray?” I pray for God....for the strength to ask the REAL questions”

  10. Matthew 6:33But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

  12. Numbers 24:17“I see him, but not now;    I behold him, but not near.A star will come out of Jacob;    a scepter will rise out of Israel.He will crush the foreheads of Moab,    the skulls of all the people of Sheth.

  13. God turns a curse into a blessing...

  14. 2.) What they sought

  15. Isaiah 9:6-7For to us a child is born,    to us a son is given,    and the government will be on his shoulders.And he will be called    Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,    Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.7 Of the greatness of his government and peace    there will be no end.He will reign on David’s throne    and over his kingdom,establishing and upholding it    with justice and righteousness    from that time on and forever.The zeal of the Lord Almighty    will accomplish this.

  17. Daniel 9:25“Know and understand this: From the time the word goes out to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until the Anointed One, the ruler, comes, there will be seven ‘sevens,’ and sixty-two ‘sevens.’ It will be rebuilt with streets and a trench, but in times of trouble.

  19. Micah 5:2“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah,    though you are small among the clans of Judah,out of you will come for me    one who will be ruler over Israel,whose origins are from of old,    from ancient times.”

  20. C) Three special Gifts

  21. 1) Gold...Speaks of Christ's Kingly role

  22. 2) Frankincense...Speaks of His Priestly Role

  23. 3) Myrrh….Speaks of His death

  24. Myrrh means 'bitter'.Used as embalming fluid, perfume, and anesthesia for pain

  25. Mark 15:23Then they offered him wine mixed with myrrh, but he did not take it.

  26. D) They bowed down and worshiped Him

  27. Romans 12:1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.

  28. Dueteronomy4:29But if from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul.
