  1. Terawave Communications, Inc. Installation & Maintenance Course Module 2 OLT & ONT Commissioning Through The Craft Interface

  2. Objectives • At the completion of this module you will: • Be able to initialize an Optical Line Termination (OLT) unit using the Craft interface • Be able to configure all Network Element parameters of the OLT using the Craft • Be able to initialize an Optical Network Termination (ONT) unit using the Craft interface • Be able to configure all Network Element parameters of the ONT using the Craft • Be able to add an ONT to an existing PON using the OLT Craft interface

  3. Contents • Commissioning An OLT • Provisioning OLT Slots – 7 • Setting System Reference clock - 9 • Setting Discovery Interval & Churning Key Changing Time – 12 • Setting NE Name, Contact & Location – 15

  4. Contents • Commissioning An ONT • Setting the ONT System IP Address – 20 • Setting NE Name, Contact & Location – 25 • Slot Provisioning – 27 • Changing Community Names (Passwords) - 29 • Add An ONT To the PON - 33 • The ONT List – 34 • Adding The ONT To The PON & Setting EOC Bandwidth - 37 • Setting the ONT PON Interface IP address – 40 • Setting Max Latency - 43

  5. CommissioningThe OLT

  6. Commissioning The OLT From Craft • For the purposes of this training course, it is assumed that the following functions have already been accomplished: • Connecting the Craft terminal • Setting the Craft terminal IP address • Opening a Craft session • Setting the System IP address

  7. ProvisioningOLT Slots

  8. 1 2 3 4 Provisioning OLT slots

  9. Setting SystemReference Clock

  10. Setting The System Reference Clock • Refer to Appendix C For the parameter descriptions, options and defaults

  11. 1 2 Commissioning the OLT - CraftSetting System Reference Clock

  12. Setting DiscoveryInterval & ChurningKey Changing Time

  13. Commissioning the OLT - CraftSetting Discovery Interval & Churning Key Changing Time • Refer to Appendix C for parameter descriptions, options and defaults • Discovery Interval and Churning Key Changing Times are PON level parameters and are set on the OLT PCU module • Discovery Interval is the amount of time between efforts of the OLT to “discover” ONTs that are in its database, but it has not yet Ranged with • Churning Key Changing Time is the amount of time between the generation of new Churning Keys by the ONTs

  14. 2 1 3 Commissioning the OLT - CraftSetting Discovery Interval & Churning Key Changing Time

  15. Entering NE Name,Contact & Location

  16. Entering A Name, Contact & Location • Refer to Appendix C for parameter descriptions, options and defaults

  17. 1 2 Entering A Name, Contact & Location

  18. CommissioningThe ONT From Craft

  19. Commissioning The ONT From Craft • For the purposes of this training course, it is assumed that the following functions have already been accomplished: • Connecting the Craft terminal • Setting the Craft terminal IP address • Opening a Craft session • Setting the Ranging code

  20. Setting The ONTSystem IP Address

  21. IP Addressing Of A Network Element • Default IP Address (OLT & ONT) • The 10.0.0.1 address is part of the Embedded SoftWare of every Network Element • It cannot be changed • It cannot be deleted • Meant to be an IP address that a Craftsperson can remember • System IP Address (OLT & ONT) • The IP address of the PHYSICALCraft/TMS interface on the OLT (required) • The IP address of the LOGICAL EOC channel on the OLT • The IP address of the PHYSICALCraft interface on the ONT (optional) • On the same subnet as the DCN Hub/Router/Switch it is physically connected to

  22. IP Addressing Of A Network Element • PON Interface IP Address (ONT) • The IP address of the LOGICALEOC management channel that the OLT and ONT use to communicate • On the ONT, this is a different address on a different subnet than the System IP address

  23. Craft Port IP Addressing Of A Network Element PON Interface IP Address OLT ONT EOC Management Channel Embedded SoftWare Embedded SoftWare TMS/Craft Port PON System IP Address Default IP Address

  24. 1 2 Entering IP Address Information On An ONT

  25. ProvisioningONT Slots

  32. 3 4 Changing Community Names (Craft Passwords)

  33. Configuring ILMI

  34. 2 1 3 Configuring ILMI

  35. Adding ONTsTo The PONFrom OLT Craft

  36. The ONT List

  37. Commissioning the ONT From OLT Craft Provisioning An ONT From OLT Craft – Checking The ONT List • The ONT List will tell you which ONT IDs have already been assigned • ONT ID number 1 is always logically assigned to the PCU • By default, any other numbers that do not appear in the ONT ID column have not been provisioned on the PON • See Appendix C for parameter descriptions, options and defaults

  38. 1 2 Commissioning the ONT From OLT Craft Provisioning An ONT From OLT Craft – Checking The ONT List

  39. Adding The ONT,Setting Max Latency &EOC Bandwidth

  40. Commissioning the ONT From OLT Craft Adding the ONT & Setting EOC Bandwidth • Refer to Appendix C for parameter descriptions, options and defaults

  41. 1 2 4 3 5 Commissioning The ONT From OLT Craft Adding the ONT & Setting EOC Bandwidth

  42. Setting The ONTPON InterfaceIP Address

  43. Commissioning The ONT From OLT Craft Setting the ONT PON Interface IP Address • If the ONT PON Interface IP Address is not being set by TMS, it must be set from the OLT Craft interface • Refer to Appendix C for parameter descriptions, options and defaults

  44. 3 1 2 4 5 Commissioning The ONT From OLT Craft Setting the ONT PON Interface IP Address
