  1. HEMODYNAMIC SIMULATOR II P09026 MEsEEs Joseph Featherall: Lead Engineer Gaurav Zirath: Project Manager Mark Frisicano Alex Baxter Liliane Pereira Clarissa Gore Jonathan Peyton

  2. Hemodynamic Simulator II (P09026) Project Overview • P09026 is continuation of project P08026, carried out during 2007/2008 academic year. • Major Objectives • Refinement of pump design • Refinement of instrumentation and data acquisition software • Research and development of computer control of all system parameters MSD I Fall '08

  3. Hemodynamic Simulator II Project Deliverable • Blood flow simulator • Portable • Aesthetically appealing, • Able to replicate the operations of human heart (left-ventricle) • Graphical User Interface (GUI) • Simple to operate • Displays the output data in desired form • Provides users full control of the unit MSD I Fall '08

  4. Hemodynamic Simulator II Specifications MSD I Fall '08

  5. Hemodynamic Simulator II Specifications (Control System) MSD I Fall '08

  6. Hemodynamic Simulator II Overall System Architecture MSD I Fall '08

  7. Hemodynamic Simulator II Pump Design: Designs / Schematics MSD I Fall '08

  8. Hemodynamic Simulator II Pump Design: Designs / Schematics MSD I Fall '08

  9. Hemodynamic Simulator II Technical Risk Assessment • Pump Design • Actuator not function at its optimal level • Excessive compliance in the circulatory loop • Fluid inertia may cause delay from input to output • Control System • LabVIEW: no previous experience • Length of testing MSD I Fall '08

  10. Hemodynamic Simulator II Current State of Design • Pump Design • Pump design meets all customer needs. • Initially chosen actuator, not powerful enough. • Maximum HR spec. was lowered from 220 to 120 bpm. • Current actuator package meets all customer specs & design requirements. • Manufacturing parts • All material priced & sourced , will be ordered this week. • Atrial, aortic & compliance chambers to constructed over thanksgiving break. • Control System • Two weeks behind schedule due to system modeling. • Developed a test plan for the control system as well as the overall system. • Plans to start building and testing over break MSD I Fall '08

  11. Hemodynamic Simulator II Finances • Budget • $ 3k • Bill of Materials $ 3329.83 • Pump Design • Actuator Package: $ 2335.00 • Mechanical Components: $ 837.83 • Control System Design • Data Acquisition Board $ 157.00 MSD I Fall '08

  12. Hemodynamic Simulator II MSD II Schedule/Milestones • Week 1 (12/01/08) • Finalize manufacturing of parts • Week 2 (12/08/08) – Week 4 (12/22/08) • Begin prototyping & data collection • Continue data collection • Based on empirical data, begin development of control system • Week 5 (01/05/09) • Finalize control system concept • Mitigate all mechanical, electrical issues • Week 6 (01/06/09) • Begin preliminary testing • Week 7 (01/13/09) • Final testing of the overall system • Week 8 (01/20/08) • Finalize all connections • Compile all documentation MSD I Fall '08
