William Shakespere • 1564-1616 • Stratford-upon-Avon, England • Poet, actor, and playwright • In his lifetime, he wrote • 38 plays • 154 sonnets • 2 long narrative poems • His plays have been translated into every major living language and are performed more often than those of any other playwright
