WATER FRAMEWORK DIRECTIVE The EU Water Framework Directive requires the assessment for all kind of water bodies in order to describe their status and to prove the result of the process of reaching the good ecological status or potential >> deadlines Assessment of the structure of the physical environment and the flow regime of streams and rivers Reference conditions (river passports)

CLASSIFICATION OF WATER BODIES • According to WFD the followings must be • Natural water body • Heavily modified body • Artificial water body They are important because of the level of environmental objectives • > good ecological status • > good ecological potential • > good ecological potential

DEFINITIONS BY ARTICLE 5 REPORT OF HUNGARY • Heavily modified water body in case of rivers • 25, means 4%-HMWB • Min.50% in hydrological or/and morhological condition is effected by • Dammed water effect on big lowland rivers • Passageway for energetical purpose • WB serves as a reservoire in mountain area • 281, means 38% pHMWB • Downstream section influenced by reservoire • Increased water quantity resulted by reservoire-control effect • Profile and current are changed—these can not be considered as they would be in natural conditions • Here the good status is possibly reachable

PILOT RIVER BASIN MANAGEMENT PLANS AND OTHER RELEVANT NEW PROJECTS • River basin management plans are developed on some pilot areas: • For example for ZAGYVA-TARNA RIVER BASIN (finished) • Pilot area among the case study for 2nd phase of the contribution for the implementation of WFD (Upper-Tisza) • Participants: ÖKo Rt., BME VKK, VTK Innosystem Kft., ARCADIS Euroconsult BV.(Period: January 2007-June 2007) • 9 pilot areas one, 3 objectives:
