Culture of the Organization • An administration’s responsibilities are to promote recovery oriented beliefs • Is a recovery oriented philosophy adopted from the top down? • Ensuring clinical training to support recovery oriented evidence based practices • The goal is for the consumers to be convinced of the organizations commitment to recovery

  3. New Code of Ethics • Where are the boundaries? • Employing and treating the same people • Coworker and clinician-managing dual relationships • This is not covered in ethics training

  4. Building a Foundation for Change • Policies and procedures must support recovery based practices • Agencies must put their money where there mouth is when implementing programming • Accepting the liability and continuing to provide programs even when afraid

  5. Advocating for Change • Do not accept discrimination from others who would limit a persons potential • Advocate against state rules that undermine recovery efforts • Get involved nationally to address rules that create barriers

  6. Summary • Administrative structures must support recovery practices for people with severe mental illnesses • Be bold and push limits • Accept the liability fact that comes with doing something new
