  1. Harry Potter and the deathly hallows Book Report: Analysis

  2. Expectations • I was really looking forward the ending of the series that I grew up reading. • I didn’t really know how JK Rowling was going to end the series, with Harry and everyone.

  3. Enjoy it? • I really enjoyed reading this. I love series enders because they wrap everything up, and make you feel really good, knowing “All was well.” or horrible in other cases. • After reading the other six, you feel motivated to read this one, and find out how it all ends, and what happens to these characters that have been developed over the last six books.

  4. Impressions • Overall, I feel this book was entertaining, and maybe a bit philosophical. There isn’t a lot to necessarily “learn” from a book about witches and wizards. • This book and its chapters are named after the events they cover, they are very straight forward. (They are looking for “The Deathly Hallows”, among other things, throughout the book.) • At the beginning, I was really excited about the book. At the end of it, I was sadder that it was all over, and because of all characters that died.

  5. Difficult/Easy to Read? • For the most part, this book was easy to read. The way JK Rowling writes, it’s easy to visualize it. • With the territory of a book based on magic, there are a lot of words that are made up, or in different laguages. (spells and that sort of thing) • But overall, even with the made up or foreign words, the book is still not very difficult to read.

  6. What type of literary work is it? • I feel like The Deathly Hallows is a work of prose fiction and drama. By definition, it is prose fiction. It is part drama because these books were made into movies, so the book can be acted out or performed, like a drama.

  7. Literary Techniques: Plot, Style and Language, Setting, and Characters • A huge part of this book and the series is Plot. To make a seven book series, the plot, setting, and universe created has to be very intricate, expansive, and interesting. • The plot and setting of the Harry Potter books is focused on him and the world of magic, but over seven books, Rowling has created an entire universe, like George Lucas did through Star Wars over six movies. A language, made of mostly Latin, used for the names of spells and items in the world also adds another layer to the setting and plot. • Along with the universe and setting, comes the characters in the book, whether directly apart of the plot or the lore of the world, they make the plot and this book series.

  8. Literary Techniques: Images and Symbols • Rowling’s style of writing is very visual, and your mind sort of dreams up what you are reading, which is why these books were so easy to convert into a film. • The book is written like a script as it is very descriptive of every little thing in a given scene.

  9. Personal Reactions • Reading this book had no influence negative/positive on my life or work, it’s just a book about magic. Not a lot to take from it. • I would say that I’m prejudiced in that I love these books, so I have to like this one. • Most critics like The Deathly Hallows, so I agree with them. • My appreciation of the work has only increased, mostly because it’s the last one and I will miss new installments. • If I wrote for a newspaper, I would encourage people to read the entire series, as it is up there in great series like Star Wars and Lord of the Rings.

  10. Author’s Accomplishments • Rowling does an amazing job of imagery and making a mature and meaning vision throughout this entire series. • I think the series has become bigger than its parts since it was written, and more historic and cherished since. • I haven’t read anything else from Rowling except the Harry Potter series, so I don’t have any other works to compare this to, besides the other books. • The Deathly Hallowsisn’t based on any history, but through it’s own created history, which if you really get into it, really does enhance the books as you read them.
