  1. GIF++ gas systems Ernesto, Roberto PH-DT-DI gas service

  2. Gas supply • neutral gases: tot 9 lines • Ar, CO2, N2, He, SF6, CF4 and 3 spare pipes • Distribution panels: 4 gas service area + 1 preparation zone • flammable gases or gases with very low vapour pressure: tot 6 lines • iC4H10, CH4, Ar/H2(optional), C2H2F4 and 2 spares. Lines and room heated. • Distribution panels: 1 gas service area (flammable gases) • 1 normal exhaust • 1 exhaust for potentially flammable mixtures Ernesto, Roberto PH-DT-DI gas service

  3. Gas service area • At full capacity the gas mixing zone will contain • 6 mixing racks • 3 closed loop gas systems • 2 analysis racks • 1 control rack • 5 spare racks • Gas analysis: • 1 O2 and H2O analysis rack (LHC design: automatic scan between all gas streams selected. • Gas chromatograph will be integrated in the O2-H2O analysis rack. • 1 Infrared analysis rack for monitoring iC4H10 concentration in cosmic trigger. • Hardwired interlock signal to stop the system will be send in case problem (DSS) Ernesto, Roberto PH-DT-DI gas service

  4. Gas service area • Start-up version: • 2mixing racks (cosmic and beam trigger) • 1closed loop gas systems (cosmic trigger ?) • 2 analysis racks • 1 control rack Construction procedure/design as for LHC gas systems Ernesto, Roberto PH-DT-DI gas service

  5. Gas mix distribution • • Gas mixture distribution: • Each distribution panel: 6 supply (outer diameter 8 mm) and 6 return (outer diameter 10 mm). • The gas distribution is divided in: • panels for neutral mixtures (type A) • panels for mixtures that might contain flammable gases (type B). • Gas service area • 6panels type A • 2 panels type B • Irradiation bunker • 6panels type A • 2panels type B • Preparation area • 3panels type A • 1panels type B Construction on-going Ernesto, Roberto PH-DT-DI gas service

  6. Gas mixers • Remote control and monitoring. • All info available on DIP through GCS and GppCS Ernesto, Roberto PH-DT-DI gas service

  12. Conclusions – start-up version First version to start-up the facility: 20 distribution panels Simplified version of control rack (basic functionality like connection to remote pvss interface for recording flows, gas systems status, …) 2 gas mixing racks for the fixed installations (beam and cosmic trigger setups). Any additional mixer for users will cost about 15 kCHF (not included in the present list). 1 IR analysis rack (needed to operate cosmic trigger gas system). 1 analysis rack (O2+H2O+ gas chromatograph). 1 closed loop gas system. Ernesto, Roberto PH-DT-DI gas service

  13. Small recirculation systems • Two small systems developed: • Prototype used at GIF (2003) • New simplified version for lab R&D (2012-2014) R. Guida CERN/PH-DT-DI

  14. Gas systems – future upgrades Many possibilities for future upgrades to be discussed with users for resources: Upgrade control rack for more units (mixers, analysis, re-circulation systems, … ) Additional IR analysis rack for second mixer using flammable gas 3 mixers for users (15 kCHF each) 3 new gas recirculation systems for users Install more distribution panels (?)
