  2. THE NATIONAL FLAG OF THE UK The national flag of the state is formed by the union of the cross of Saint George (red on a white field - Britain), the diagonal cross of Saint Patrick (red on a white field – Ireland), the diagonal cross of Saint Andrew (white on the blue field – Scotland).

  4. The geographic position of the UK The UK is a group of islands, located off the north-west coast of Europe, across the English Channel, Strait of Dover, and the North Sea. It is borded with Ireland to west & France to south-east. It is washed by the Atlantic Ocean in the north-west, the North Sea in the east & by the English Channel in the south.

  16. THE PARLIAMENT • Parliament is the legislative governing body of the UK. • The Head of the government is Prime-Minister. • Tony Blair has been Prime – Minister since 1997.

  18. The history of London London is so old. The Romans founded it more than 2000 years ago. They started London as a fortress. Later they transformed it into a town.
