Animal Classification. How are animals alike ?. Made of many cells Cannot make their own food Most can move. Two Main Groups of Animals:. 1. Vertebrates - animals with backbones. The backbone provides support and helps them move. 2. Invertebrates - animals without backbones.

  3. Two Main Groups of Animals: 1. Vertebrates- animals with backbones. The backbone provides support and helps them move. 2. Invertebrates- animals without backbones. They have hard coverings and shells for protection.

  5. THE VERTEBRATES Two Types of Vertebrates: A. Endothermic- warm-blooded, able to regulate their own body heat. (*inside temp.) 1. Mammals- only group with hair – babies grow inside – mothers give milk to babies - have lungs 2. Birds- have feathers – hatch from eggs - hollow bones ..\Video Clips\Introduction_to_Birds.asf

  6. Are you ready for more??? B. Ectothermic- means cold-blooded. Can’t regulate their own body temperature. Their body temp. changes with their surroundings. (*outsidetemperature) 1.
