  1. America as a World Power Based on what we have discussed so far-How do you think the United States would solve a conflict between nations?

  3. Russo-Japanese War Japan was winning but lost to many men and to much money to continue. Roosevelt then helped work out a piece treaty winning a Nobel Peace Prize in 1906. United States and Japan work together for awhile in Asia and the Pacific Ocean. Teddy “Speaking Softly”

  4. The Roosevelt Corollary Latin American countries owed money to European countries. Roosevelt wanted to make sure these countries in Europe didn’t take over when the Latin American countries couldn’t pay their debt. Roosevelt added his Corollary to the Monroe Doctrine. The United States would now use force to protect Latin America. Teddy “Carrying a Big Stick”

  5. William H. Taft had to exercise the Corollary when he took the presidency. Taft had us loan Nicaragua money to pay off debts giving us control of their banks. The people of Nicaragua heard and didn’t like this so they rebelled. We sent in our marines and put a stop to the rebellion. Dollar Diplomacy

  7. Panama Canal

  8. United States had to get permission from Columbia to build the Panama Canal. Negotiations ended with no agreement. Panama rebelled and the United States supported the rebellion . Panama became independent giving the USA what they wanted. Our agreement with Panama included buying the canal zone for 10 million dollars. We could now build the canal Panama Canal

  9. Over 5,600 people died from accidents or diseases. The Canal cost $380 million for the United States to make. On August 15, 1914 the Panama Canal opened for business. This canal really hurt U.S. support in Latin America. Panama Canal
