  2. This presentation gives a brief description of Electronic Enlightenment. • It tells you: • what Electronic Enlightenment is; • how it can help you; • how to look for information in it. • The presentation will take about 4 minutes.

  3. Electronic Enlightenment is a scholarly research project of the Bodleian Libraries, University of Oxford. It presents a unique online collection of letters written by people (famous and not so famous) from 1619 to 1890.

  4. EE offers unrivalled access to the correspondence networks of the greatest thinkers and writers of the 17th to 19th centuries, their families, friends, bankers, bakers, poets, booksellers, patrons, publishers and more... It provides fully searchable, scholarly, full-text transcriptions of letters... ... and we are adding images of original letters, envelopes, and seals.

  5. There are lots of additional materials, such as maps, lesson plans and images.

  6. The resource gives online access to over 60,000 letters from over 50 critical editions. You can cross-search letters from more than 7,400 writers, scientists, philosophers, politicians, political thinkers and others. • EE contains letters in 11 different languages including: English, French, Dutch and Italian. • There is an expanding network of links to over 50 additional online resources, including the Oxford Dictionary of National Biographyand the Encyclopedia of the Enlightenment.
