  21. Zunh Doz/Sermon “Protector and Provider” Psalms 23:1 Yauzsing Zeuz

  22. Protector and Provider Introduction: No doubt about it. God cares, provides, protects, and supplies for His creation. There are numerous metaphors in the Bible that speak of God caring for His people (as a shepherd cares for his sheep, as an eagle cares for their young, as a mother cares for her baby, and as a gardener cares for his garden). There are no other gods like Him. The One True God alone cares for us in all our struggles, difficulties, as well as our success and victories.

  23. Protector and Provider A. God protects and provides as a shepherd cares for his sheep (Ps. 23; John 10:11-14) 1. The Psalmist said, “The LORD is my shepherd…” (Ps. 23:1; 74:1; 79:13; 95:7; 100:3) The Great Shepherd -God - protects, provides, guides, and cares for His sheep - us. 2. God guided His people in the wilderness as a shepherd leads his sheep (Ps. 78:52). 3. He is called the Shepherd of Israel (Ps. 80:10). 4. Jesus said, “I am the good shepherd…” (John 11,14) 5. Jesus is “The Great Shepherd…” (Heb.13:20) 6. Jesus Christ is the Christian’s Shepherd (1 Pet. 2:25).

  24. Protector and Provider B. God protects and provides as a mother does for her baby (Ps. 131:2-3) 1. David learned to trust God to supply for his needs as a child (at peace) that trusts in his mother, who is there to comfort and to meet his needs. 2. Paul tells us we need meat (solid doctrine or spiritual food) not just milk (plain easy doctrine) (1 Cor. 3:2; Heb. 5:12-14). 3. Submission and contentment as in a weaned child (Isa. 11:8; 28:9; Matt. 18:3-4). 4. The Hebrew children were often not weaned until they were three years old. Hence they were quite ready and content with regular food and no longer wants his mother’s milk.

  25. Protector and Provider C. God protects and provides as eagles do for their young (Ex. 19:4; Deut. 32:11) 1. Eagles are known to carry their young out of the nest on their wings and teach them to fly. This is a metaphor of God’s care for Israel – His protection and provision for them. 2. Jesus said, “…How often I wanted to gather your children together, the way a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were unwilling.” (Matt 23:37) 3. God exercises His care for His people in the same manner a mother bird cares for her young (Ruth 2:12; Ps. 17:8; Isa. 31:5).   4. Jesus wanted to give them the same kind of motherly care, but they rejected that care and tender affection again and again(Matt. 23:37 ).

  26. Protector and Provider D.He protects and provides as a gardener does for his garden (Ps. 72:6) 1. An evidence of God’s protection and provision for His creation is by bringing rain and snow to provide food for man’s physical well-being (Is. 55:10) 2. It is the LORD who makes the stormy clouds. It is He who gives showers of rain and vegetation in the field to each man (Zechariah 10:1) 3. It is God who makes the grass grow. (Ps. 147:8) 4. Jesus is the Living water (John 4:10-11;7:38)

  27. Application of principle to practice: 1. God conveys His protection, provision, and care for His creation in a multitude of ways. 2. As the Great Shepherd, our God constantly guides, provides, and protects us. 3. As a mother and child or Eagles with their young, God shows his affection, love, and concern for our well-being. 4. Without a doubt we see how God cares for His creation by sending rain and snow to help our vegetation.
