El Camino Real • http://www.thecajuns.com/camino-real.htm • Over this road, with its 1,600-mile route ever changing with new roadways and trails, came settlers, missionaries, and soldiers who populated the settlements, missions, and presidios of East Texas and Northwest Louisiana. • Route: LA 6, Hwy 90/ Natchitoches to San Antonio to Mexico City

Old Spanish Trail • Conceived  in 1915 as the shortest route between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, the Old Spanish Trail (OST) connecting St. Augustine, Florida and San Diego, California, took nearly fifteen years to construct at a cost of more than $80,000,000. • Route: U.S. 90, HWY 182/NewOrleans to New Iberia to Toomey/Sabine River

  4. Nolan’s Trace • A former cattle trail to Texas blazed in the 18th century by Phillip Nolan. Nolan made numerous trips between Natchez and Texas going by way of the Rapids on the Red river. His adventures came to a sad end when he was attacked by a group of Spaniards. The Spaniards then sent Nolan’s ears to Chihuahua as proof of his death ending his contraband (smuggled goods) trade with the Americans of Natchez. U.S. 84/ LA 28 Natchez, MS to Texas
