  1. Camera Based Surveillance System to Curb Snail Pace at NHAI’s Toll Plazas Globalisation - induced reforms gave a boost to economic activity in India. It improved the purchasing power of Indian citizens and also the standard of living. People started using automobiles for commuting purposes in a manner never before. Due to the increase in vehicular density, the roadways in India typically got clogged by the unsought congestion. Particularly the national highways, that represent only a miniscule of all the roadways in Republic of India, carry a walloping quantity of forty percent of all the trade happening within the territorial limits of India and most frequently face the warmth of congestion issues. Most often traders and commuters got adjusted with the system but there underlies a deep sense of dissatisfaction among them. So, as to deal with such problematic issues, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and its executive bodies came up with completely different congestion-curbing initiatives like FASTag, Video-based surveillance systems, and NFC Toll payment systems. The National Highways Authority of India is testing the latter two in different phases across India. Vehicular-based closed-circuit television, one amongst the recent initiatives from the NHAI is all about watching the traffic on national highways through a centralised camera system. This system would click photos associated with traffic at a 30 minute time intervals and relay it to the NHAI’s headquarters and regional offices. The complete set of traffic data stacks would be perpetually monitored 24 x 7 and appropriate communication would be awaited by the authorities. Also, this mechanism is meant in such some way that whenever there would be a standstill at Toll Plazas, the cameras there would be switched to video mode and broadcast the footage to the regional offices and concerned authorities compelling them act quicker with actionable data. Toll plazas would be put in with effective cameras and necessary supporting infrastructure such as server and data storage equipment. To facilitate the sleek dissemination of the traffic information, Toll plazas would be connected with 100mbps web connectivity. The NHAI has already commenced works to launch this system in around 10 Toll plazas in the first phase. In the next six months, NHAI is going to spot around two hundred busiest Toll plazas, which witness a daily traffic of 10 thousand vehicles. In this regard, the National highways Authority of Republic of India (NHAI) would be getting in associate agreement with the Korea expressway Corporation. This corporation has been

  2. leveraging different technologies for management of traffic. So, it's been tasked with management of route network in Korea. The Korea expressway corporation monitors and manages the Korean highways’ traffic from its Traffic Management centre placed in Korea by tapping the advantages of agile audio-visual technologies. Recognising the expertise of Korea Expressway Corporation, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has planned to rope during this corporation and make use of their skills in implementing the video-based IP camera. If this system will be expanded to all highways, it would complement the present FASTag Toll collection system, which is first of its kind in India. So, there would be multiplier effect with this video-based surveillance system in the form of vehicular data and also providing hinder- less travel experience to commuters. #TollPlaza #FASTag #MinistryofRoadTransport
