  4. 1938 – Hitler Annexed (took over) Austria. Later he claims the Sudetenland, the western part of Czechoslovakia Hitler’s Aggression

  5. Meeting between leaders of Britain, France, Italy and Germany. Hitler promises to seek no further territory if the Sudetenland was acquired. To preserve peace, Britain and France give in. Munich Conference

  6. Appeasement • The practice of giving into aggression in order to avoid war.

  7. Hitler’s Response • Germany seized the rest of Czechoslovakia • Appeasement had failed.
