The Y2K Problem • Making sure systems function correctly with a four digit date • Recognition of the year 2000 as a leap year • Correct processing of dates before and after the year 2000, with proper transition across critical dates • Unambiguous input and display of dates • Correct processing of dates used for non date functions and • Hardware compliance

  4. Items to Check for Y2K Compliance • Computing hardware • Computing software • Research • Office equipment • Facilities • Non-traditional computing devices • Medical • Transportation • Communications • Laboratory equipment

  5. The Babson Y2K Program • Inventory: software, hardware, embedded chips • Evaluation and risk assessment • Testing and more testing • Remediation decisions and plans • Certification database • Vendor certification • Community awareness

  6. Keep these in mind… • Don’t underestimate the scope of the problem • Focus priorities on mostimportant areas • Remember the domino effect • Determine what you need to inventory, test, and/or remediate • Use Babson help as appropriate

Impact on Faculty…Teaching • Software products installed in classrooms should already be listed in inventory - please help us and check • Any hardware or embedded chips currently used? • Provide information on what you are using so that we can check Y2K compliance • For new choices, select Y2K ready!

Impact on Faculty…Research • Determine what you need to inventory, test, and/or remediate - report what is not listed in our inventory if you want us to check for its compliance • Back up your databases (for later recovery if not compliant) - it is not critical to do everything by 1-1-2000 • Ask for database/spreadsheet assistance if needed
