Today’s Bellringer- 09/27 • Bellringer: Read the passage and answer the following questions: Throughout the Civil War, women in both the North and South made incredible sacrifices.  They raised children alone, managed farms, faced their enemies, and gave up cherished family heirlooms.  Life for women during the Civil War was arduous due to the many hardships.  Because of the amount of work required, many women were not able to participate in their own personal hobbies.  Despite this difficult time, women were able to gain a footing on the society of the United States post Civil War. One of the statements below expresses the main idea of the passage.  One statement is too general, or too broad.  The other explains only part of the passage; it is too narrow.  Label the statements M for main idea, B for too broad, and N for too narrow. _____Women had a difficult time during the Civil War _____Women had to give up their own personal hobbies _____Women faced many hardships

  4. Prepositions • Preposition-a joining word, that joins the noun or pronoun to the rest of the sentence. It is labeled P. • Object of the preposition- the noun or pronoun after the preposition in the sentence. It is labeled OP. • Prepositional phrases- the preposition + the object of the preposition. It is identified in the question and answer flow after you say the word CHECK. • If there is more than one prepositional phrase in a sentence, read all the prepositional phrases during that time.
