  2. 2006 NSDI CAP Program Schedule • February 1 - CAP closes (60-day open period) • Proposal review begins • March 1 - CAP award selections • Project kickoff meetings begin in March

  3. NSDI CAP Program • Seed grants to build NSDI • Promote know solutions & standard based approach • Encourage collaboration • Metadata, SDI organizational development, interoperability & web service, standards… • Since 1994 funded over 600 projects

  5. 2006 NSDI CAP Program • Total FGDC CAP Funds - $1,150,000 • NGPO Geographic Information Integration and Analysis (GIIA) Office contributed $250,000 • Approximately 24 projects to be awarded

  6. 2006 NSDI CAP Funding Categories • Metadata Training and Outreach • Framework Client Development • Fifty-States Initiative • Canadian-US SDI Project • Geographic Information Integration and Analysis

  7. Category 1: Metadata Training & Outreach • Support metadata enabled organizations to assist other organizations implementing metadata • Training • Results • Metadata created • Discoverable and harvested thru GOS, Clearinghouse, and web folders • Metadata becomes standard practice

  8. Category 1: Metadata Training & Outreach • Up to $25,000 with 50% match • Funds -travel, facilities, clearinghouse service, labor to create metadata • ~ 5 projects to be funded • Open to all organizations demonstrating metadata expertise • Lead: Sharon Shin

Category 2: Framework Client Development • To increase the visibility, use, and regular access to Framework data services • Results in public domain software • supports requirements of identified community in problem solving and analysis • OGC Web Feature Service with Framework GML Application Schemas • provide feedback on Framework data standard and services

  10. Category 2: Framework Client Development • Up to $75,000 with 50% match • Funds software development • ~ 3 projects to be funded • Applicant requirements: • recognized discipline community • software developer • NSDI expertise – metadata, clearinghouse, OGC web service • Lead: Doug Nebert

  11. Category 3: Fifty-States Initiative • Future Directions Action Plan • Develop and implement statewide strategic and business plans • Build NSDI on local and state government geospatial activities • NSGIC planning template

  12. Category 3: Fifty-States Initiative • Up to $50,000 with 50% match • Open to all organizations – statewide coordinating councils or entities • Coordinated multi-sector applications encouraged • ~ 10 projects to be funded • Lead – Milo Robinson

  13. Category 4: Joint Canadian-US Spatial Data Infrastructure Project • Paula Rojas – GeoConnections Lead • Milo Robinson – FGDC Lead • USGS serves & receives joint applications

  14. Category 4: Joint Canadian-US Spatial Data Infrastructure Project • Stimulate cross-border SDI over a common geography • Test approaches to collaboration & sharing of connected, distributed data & services • Environmental, public health & saftey, native peoples

  15. Category 4: Joint Canadian-US Spatial Data Infrastructure Project • One joint partnership project to be funded • FGDC funding US partners up to $75,000 with 100% in-kind match • GeoConnections funding Canadian partners up to $100,000 with 100% in-kind match

Category 5: Geographic Information Integration and Analysis • Assist organizations & consortia partnering with NGPO • To develop & provide access to geospatial data • Seeking organizations that are already maintaining, updating & serving data • Over large areas • Open all organizations except Federal

  17. Category 5: Geographic Information Integration and Analysis • Project outcomes • Base topographic data served through The National Map & Geospatial One-Stop • Data maintained & periodically updated • Formal stewardship agreement between NGPO and the project organization
