  2. Dialogue 9 from “The Mad Gardner’s Song” • Hippo 1: He thought se saw a Banker’s Clerk descending from the bus. • Hippo 2: He looked again and found it was a hippopotamus! • Hippo 3: “If this should stay to dine” he said, “There won’t be much for us!”

Hippo Hop • Friday night a hop was hosted by the kangaroo. • Jumpin’ frogs and rabbits came and leapin’ lemurs too. • Bouncy critters came from every corner of the zoo. • Everything was great until a knock came at the door • When it opened, in walked twenty hippos, maybe more. • They had come to join the fun. They headed for the floor.

  4. And the floors started creakin’ • The roof started leakin’ • The walls started shakin’ • The whole house was quakin’ • And the dance came to a stop………. • When the hippos did the hop!

When the hippos did the hop it made a thund’rous sound. • Fifty tons of mammal could be heard for miles around. • They did so much hoppin; that the walls came crashin’ down. • When the dust had settled, kangaroo was in distress. • She surveyed the wreckage caused by uninvited guests. • But the guilty hippos stayed all night to clean the mess.
