  3. Pre-Classic Period • Between 1500 BC – 300 AD the Mayan population grew and large villages were constructed. This is called the “Pre-Classic” period of Mayan culture.

  4. The Classic Period • The Classic Period of Mayan culture occurred between 300 – 900 AD. The ruins of Mayan buildings found today date back to this period.

  5. Mayan Buildings • In the jungles of Mexico and Guatemala, the Mayans built pyramids and temples.

  6. TheBuildingswereColorful • Archeologists have studied the insides of some chambers and have discovered the walls were originally painted bright colors.
