Immediatelyfollowing their stayinPeru,SweetHoneywill travel toKingston,Jamaicatoparticipateinseveral BlackHistoryMontheventshosted by theUSEmbassyinKingston.,February26-27.TheEmbassyhasbeenworking tirelesslyon thetheme“Equal Citizenship forallJamaicans”. Thisthemealsosupportsthe“Respect Jamaica”(privatesectorinitiative) and“Respect”campaignof theU.S.AgencyforInternationalDevelopment (USAID).Personswithdisabilitiesand those whopractice alternative lifestyles(i.e.basedonsexual orientation/genderidentification)areoftenon themarginsofsocietyand nottreatedequallyinseveral ways. TheEmbassy'scampaignthismonthemphasizes that humanrightsarenotspecialtoany group(majority,minorityormarginal) andthatit issimplyeveryone’sright tobevaluedand protectedinthesociety in whichtheylive. Sweet Honeywill behonored asspecial guestsof theUSAmbassadortoJamaica,LuisG.Moreno and will performata privatereceptionathisresidenceonFeb.26th.Earlierintheday,SweetHoneywill host twoculturally inspired workshopsforyouthand adultsat"BluesontheGreen,"EmancipationParkinNewKingston. OnFebruary27th,theywillheadlinetheEmbassy'sannualBlackHistorymonthconcert foranestimated7000peopleat"Blueson the Green," EmancipationPark. EarlierthismonthSweetHoneywas invited byU.S.Embassy inAddisAbaba,Ethiopia to contributetoseveralBlackHistoryMonthcultural andeducationaleventshighlighting the contributionsofAfricanAmericans,and inparticularAfricanAmericanwomen,havemadeinthefieldsofmusic,art,politicsand business.TheirvisittoEthiopia(Feb2 - 5) waskicked offwithspecial receptionandperformanceattheU.S.Embassy inAddisAbaba. Theyalsocollaboratedand performedaconcert withtheEthiopianfemaleacappellamusicalgroupYegnaattheMulualemHall inBahirDaronFebruary3rd,hosted amaster classattheMekaneyesusJazz SchoolinAddisAbabaonFebruary4thand performedonFebruary4thatMama’sKitchenRestaurant and Night Club inBole. Lastyear,SweetHoneymadetheirpremiereUSEmbassy tour(August27-31)as part of thelongstanding Arts Envoy programtoBelize.TheArts Envoy Programisa longstanding outreachprogramand initiativeby theUSStateDepartmentthat'shosted bytheUSEmbassyinBelize.Sweet HoneyperformedconcertsinBelizeCity,Dangrigaand Placentiaandconductedartistexchange workshopswithacoupleofnotedBelizeanartists.
