  2. September 21st is World Alzheimer’s Day The sole objective of World Alzheimer’s Day is to spread awareness about Alzheimer’s and dementia. For this occasion, we have listed some interesting facts about dementia. Alzheimer is the most common type of dementia that has affected nearly 5.5 Americans. 5.3 million Of them are ages 65 and above, meaning that one in 10 people age 65 or older has Alzheimer.

  5. Dementia Slowly Get Worse: • Dementia doesn’t occur suddenly. • Instead, it is likely to progress slowly.

  7. Dementia isn’t in Your Genes: • Rarely is dementia caused by genetics. • The hereditary cases of Alzheimer’s are as less as 5%.

  8. Learning Languages and Brain Stimulating Activities are Useful: • Since dementia is linked to cognitive disability, learning new languages and brain workouts can help patients. • These activities require different parts of the brain to function, thereby improving cognitive ability.

  9. It Can Cause Changes in Your Behavior: • Dementia can cause changes in a person’s behavior. For example, an easy going and quiet person can be turned into bad-tempered and outspoken after having dementia. • In some cases a patient can experience visual hallucinations, if he or she has Lewy Bodies.

  10. A Healthy Lifestyle is Useful to Prevent Dementia: • Keeping good health is essential to prevent the onset of dementia. • This is because diabetes, midlife hypertension, midlife obesity and depression may lead to dementia.
