  3. Introduction Africa is an enormous continent . Africa is the second largest continent in the whole wide world but Asia is the largest. There are over 50 countries in Africa, some of them are small area and population . The population in Africa is growing more quickly than any other continents . 1

  4. African animals Africa has lots and lots of little creatures and huge animals. In this project I am going to talk to you about four African animals that live in certain places in Africa. *Giraffe * Zebra * Hyena * Lion 2

  5. Giraffe The giraffe is from the Giraffidae family which has only one other member, the Okapi. The giraffe has a very long list of common names to account for the high number of subspecies. Giraffe have extremely long legs because they need to reach up high to eat them. Do you know what giraffes eat? Look at the pictures to help you . Giraffes move in loose herds on the open woodlands and grasslands of the African Savannah. Eating mostly at dusk and dawn on leaves and fruit, the Giraffe's main food source is the acacia tree. 3

  6. Zebra In Africa there are grasslands all over the ground. Grassland are large areas of flat ground , or savannahs. During dry weathers the grasses turn yellow. However, once the rains fall down, the grassland turns back to green. That’s where zebra belongs to. Each year, huge herds of zebras and wildebeest make a massive journeys in search of fresh and mouth-watering grass. This is called a migration. The migration is also dangerous as the animals have to cope with fast flowing rivers and hunters, such as crocodiles. 4

  7. Hyena Hyenas is a African animal. Spotted hyenas are hunters that live on the grassland of Africa. They have strong jaws and huge teeth that can crush the bones of their prey as if they were twigs. Did You Know? The hyena is often called the laughing hyena because of its noisy cackle or laugh-like call. 5

  8. Lion Lion is a really good hunter. Lions work as a team when they hunt. Some of the lions lie in wait, while others chase an animal towards them. By hunting together, they can catch and pull dawn large animals such as wildebeest. Working together is really important. Lions belong to a group of mammals called carnivores. They have stabbing teeth and long claws. Male lions have thick manes of hair around their heads and necks. Lion cubs learn how to hunt by watching their mothers. By the time they are a couple of years old, the cubs are ready to hunt on their own. 6

  9. Endangered Animals Animals become extinct (die out) for many reasons, such as a in their habitat. For example, if the climate gets warmer, the animal may not survive this change. Crocodiles are ancient animals that were around when dinosaurs destroyed the earth. Unlike the dinosaurs, crocodiles have survived. Other ancient animals still around include alligators and tortoises. Many well-known animals could become extinct in the next 10 years or so, including the giant panda, tiger and black rhinos. A few of these animals survive in national parks and zoos where they are protected. 7

  10. Help Animals The best way to save endangered animals is to conserve, or the protect, their habitats (where they live). This can be done by creating national parks and by stopping farms and factories from polluting around the land. Did you know the world first national park was the Yellowstone National park in the USA. It was created in 1872. 8

  11. WWF WWF is charity for endangered animals that suffocated around the world. This charity is very good because the people who work there are extremely kind and they really care for animals in Africa. Hope you could help those animals and make their lives change better Better and BETTER. We also need to work even better than yesterday to achieve our goals. 9
