  1. Gilian Air Sampling Pump Field Calibration A Step-By-Step Guide

  2. Items required • Sampling Pump • Collection Media • Gilibrator Calibrator

  3. A Field Calibration Consists of TwoParts • The Pre-Calibration (Pre-Cal) is done before the sample is taken • The Post-Calibration (Post Cal) is done after the sample is taken

  4. The Pre-Cal • The Pre-Cal is used to set the desired sample flow rate, and to verify it on an air flow calibrator.

  5. Conductingthe Pre-Calibration

  6. The Pre-Cal • Set the Flow Rate • Observe the Flow Rate • Record the Flow Rate • An average of 6 to 10 Gilibrator readings is recommended

  7. Run The Sample • Pump is placed on the belt • Sample media is placed on the lapel (Breathing Zone) and pointed downward • Record the Start Time • Record the End Time

  8. The Post-Cal • The Post-Cal is used to obtain the final flow rate and to verify that the flow rate stayed within +/- 5% of the set flow.

  9. The Post-Cal • Observe the Final Flow Rate • Record the Final Flow Rate • An average of 6 to 10 Gilibrator readings is recommended

  10. Average Flow Rate • The Pre-Cal flow rate and the Post-Cal flow rate may be averaged to obtain an average flow rate for the sample.

  11. Pre-Cal Flow Rate + Post Cal Flow Rate = Avg Flow Rate 2 • Determining the Average Flow Rate

  12. Cyclone Calibration • The Gilian 10mm nylon cyclone has only an exit fitting and must be placed inside a calibration jar to accept the Gilibrator.

  13. Low Flow Modules • Calibrating with low flow modules

  14. Constant Flow Modules • Set pump flow to 1500cc/min • Turn module switch on • Connect sample tubing to pump • Adjust desired flow rate at module • Read flow rate at Gilibrator

  15. Multi-Flow Modules • Set pump to 1500 cc/min • Turn module switch on • Connect sample tubing to pump • Adjust flow rate at holder • Adjust each tube twice • Read the flow rates

  16. Further Information • For detailed information on any of the Gilian products, please consult the product operation manuals. • Manuals may be accessed through our web site at www.sensidyne.com
