  2. Lesson #1 We Pray to our Father Jesus did (Mk 14:36; Jn 17:1; Heb 5:7-8) We pray tenaciously (Lk 11:6-8; 18:1-8) Prayer Galatians 4:6, Because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.”

  3. Lesson #2 Praise is the precursor of valid petitions See Isaiah 36:14-20 Prayer Mt 6:9-10, This, then, is how you should pray: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”

  18. Lesson #7 We have the power of imprecatory prayer or blessing. (Mt 18:18-20; Jn 20:23; Acts 4:29-30) Prayer Lk 10:5-6, When you enter a house, first say, `Peace to this house.' If a man of peace is there, your peace will rest on him; if not, it will return to you.

  19. Lesson #8 When Should We Pray? 1. The Jews prayed morning, noon, and night (Acts 3:1; 10:3) as well as at meals (Mt 14:19; Acts 27:35; 1 Tim 4:3) 2. Jesus prayed early in the morning once (Mk 1:35) and several times through the night (Mt 14:23; Lk 6:12; 9:28) Prayer 1 Thessalonians 5:17-18: “Pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.”

  20. Lesson #9 We Pray because we need to! Jesus prayed at crucial times (Luke 3:21, Baptism; 6:12, Appointing Apostles; 9:18, Peter’s confession; 9:28, Transfiguration; 22:41, Gethsemane; 23:34, on the Cross) Prayer Luke 5:16, “But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.”

  21. Lesson #9 We Pray because we need to! Jesus prayed at crucial times (Luke 3:21, Baptism; 6:12, Appointing Apostles; 9:18, Peter’s confession; 9:28, Transfiguration; 22:41, Gethsemane; 23:34, on the Cross) Most prayers in Acts arise from difficulty (1:24-25; 4:24-31; 6:6; 7:59-60; 12:5; 13:2-3; 14:23; 16:25; 27:35). Prayer Acts 12:5, “So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him.”

  22. Lesson #10 Prayer changes God’s Heart(see Luke 11:9-10) Prayer James 5:15-16, “The prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well . . . The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.”
