  1. Tuesday, February 8th, 2011 • Geography: • IN: In what ways can we show our opinion? • Content Objective: Students will analyze problems in various countries by determining who the problems affect, how, and any possible solutions in an editorial essay.

  2. You are a traveling reporter… • So far, the countries you have visited are: • Panama • Chile • Brazil • You write editorials- An article in a newspaper or blog where the author tells his/her opinion. • Your job is to write about major issues/ problems in the countries you visit. In your articles, you give YOUR OPINION on how to fix them.

  3. Choose 1 country/ 1 problem • Panama: • The canal is too small for the world’s largest ships. • Chile • After the 2010 earthquake, tourism business is slow. No one wants to visit. • Brazil • 1) The rain forest is being sold for carbon credits • 2) Walls are being built around favelas.

  4. In your editorial, you must: • 1) Describe the problem. • 2) Determine who is directly affected positively and negatively. • 3) Explain how they’re directly affected. • 4) Determine who is indirectly affected positively and negatively. • 5) Explain how they’re indirectly affected. • 6) Determine solutions to solving the problem. • 7) Describe challenges solving the problem.
