  1. One month since 5.12 Sichuan earthquake

Immediate response of HKRC • On the same day of the earthquake, HKRC pledged RMB500,000 to Chinese Red Cross for emergency items • HKRC staff arrived quake affected areas on 13 May with Chinese RC Headquarters for needs assessment • Coordination meeting at HKRC HQ with all concerned Depts starting from 13 May

  3. Immediate response of HKRC • Since 14 May, more staff were sent to China to source and purchase quilts, tents and other relief supplies • 1st HKRC medical team (6 members) arrived Chengdu on 15 May

  4. HKRC Medical Team serving at Beichuan (北川) where villagers evacuated

  6. Temporary Call Centre in our Hall (by Youth & Volunteer Dept (Y&V)

  7. Communication & Resource Development Dept handling all 500 corporate donors – from cheque presentation to donation agreement

  8. Receipt centre in the Hall [A team of temp staff and volunteers led by Yvonne Yau of Y&V]

  9. Cards and drawings from children of our Red Cross Hospital Schools for children in Sichuan (only handle small amount)

  10. In summary: • Raised HK$ 988 million • 900 volunteers contributed 5000 service hours • Handled 32,000 telephone enquiries • Recorded 550,000 visits to the HKRC website • Estimated 600,000 donation receipts to be issued • Appointed PriceWaterHouse to perform internal audit since 26 May 08

  21. The HKRC has served 230,000 affected people by purchasing and distributing (with HK$ 18 million): • 5,000 family tents • 54,000 quilts • 5,500 family kits • 8,500 cartoons of instant noodle • 500 large tents for facilities

  22. …. served more than 1,500 patients by 2 medical teams comprising of 6 doctors, 4 nurses and 1 pharmacist …. established the HKRC Chengdu Liaison Office with 3 staff at present … moving on to transitional stage and rehabilitation stage
