  2. Biography, Wassily Kandinsky Wassily Kandinsky was born on December 4, 1866 in Moscow Russia. He sadly passed away on December 13, 1944 in Neuilly-sur-Seine. Other names that he was known by are; Vasilij Kandinskij, Vasilii Kandinskii and Vasily Kandinski. Wassily didn’t start his work of expressionism he had other plans at first. For example, he learned and used to play the piano and the cello. For more information about his life and career, continue watching the presentation.

  3. His career In 1866, Wassily Kandinsky began studying economics at the Moscow University. At the Moscow Faculty of Law he began teaching after passing his exams. He was very talented and enjoyed teaching himself different skills. In 1895, Wassily had seen and exhibit of French impressionists in Moscow. The artists included Monet. Kandinsky was rather upset that painters were allowed to paint subjects that were hard to “recognize.” He especially was confused by Monet’s painting “The Haystack.” Wassily Kandinsky founded the 20th century abstract art, moving and changing geometric forms. He is extremely well known for that. He worked and studied the educational points in Munich from 1896 to 1914. With Franz Marc, a German painter, he started a “group of innovatory German artists.” The group was called “The Blue Rider” (Per Blaue Reiter). It was called this because Kandinsky loved blue and Marc loved horses.

  4. Continuation When Wassily Kandinsky reached the age of thirty, he decided to start a job as an artist. The year he began was the year 1896 and in 1896 he went to Munich in Southern Germany. “He enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts for four years until 1900.” Kandinsky was a “theorist” and he played a very important role as a “innovator in modern art” and as an abstract artist. Most of Kandinsky ‘s early paintings “were executed in a naturalistic style.” Though, in 1909, after going to visit Paris, he was extremely impressed by the art work of Fauves and impressionists. His paintings then became more coloured and “loosely organized.”

  5. Near 1913, he began to paint impressive and abstract modern art; they were related to subjects in the world but more from inspiration and even music song titles. He produced many abstract and figurative paintings during this period. After World War 1 His art style decreased for sharply etched outlines and clear patterns. As you can see, he was very successful in all his work. More about him...

  6. Materials As you can see and you will see more on the next few pages, that Kandinsky’s art is extremely abstract. He uses different materials. Such as: paint, line colours and quality brushes and different size and type canvas’.
