Mystery? • What the Disciples preached • Gospel of Kingdom of God • “He sent them to preach the kingdom of God.” (Luke 9.2) • Did not preach crucifixion • “Let these sayings sink down into your ears: for the Son of man shall be delivered into the hands of men. But they understood not this saying and it was hid from them that they perceived it not.” (Luke 9.44)

Mystery? • They did not understand the mystery… • “For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise from the dead.” (John 20.9) • The mystery that unfolded over millennia • The mystery we must pass on 1 Corinthians 4:1 Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God.

  7. Mystery? Colossians 4:3 Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds: • Paul was desperate to share the mystery How long has it been hidden?

Mystery? • It was revealed to the disciples • “…The mystery of Christ, which in other ages was no made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles..” (Ephesians 3.4-5) • “The mystery which has been hid from ages and from generations, but is now made manifest.” (Col 1.26)

  9. What was the Mystery? • How would God’s plan be realised? • How would man be reconciled back to God? • How would the kingdom of God be established? • How could God ever dwell with sinful man? ? ? ? ? ?

The Solution Colossians 2.2-3 My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. • Jesus Christ - The Solution to the Mystery!

  11. The New Message • The Kingdom could only be realised through Jesus. • Jesus is key - the solution to the mystery! • New message is therefore based on this. • “Preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching those things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ.” (Acts 28.31)
