  1. Being a Refuge of Christ’s Kingdom

  2. “The optimists…were the ones who said, 'We're going to be out by Christmas.' And Christmas would come, and Christmas would go. Then they'd say, 'We're going to be out by Easter.' And Easter would come, and Easter would go. And then Thanksgiving, and then it would be Christmas again. And they died of a broken heart. This is a very important lesson. You must never confuse faith that you will prevail in the end - which you can never afford to lose - with the discipline to confront the most brutal facts of your current reality, whatever they might be.” Retired Admiral Jim Stockdale

  3. In His Refuge, We Connect – Part IIHebrews 6:13-20

  4. I. We who take Refuge in God share confident hope for eternity. “But as it is, Christ has obtained a ministry that is as much more excellent than the old as the covenant he mediates is better, since it is enacted on better promises. For if that first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no occasion to look for a second.” Hebrews 8:6-7 “In speaking of a new covenant, he makes the first one obsolete. And what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.” Hebrews 8:13

  5. I. We who take Refuge in God share confident hope for eternity. • God promises us we are forever His by committing all that He is to bring that to pass (verses 13-17) • “Abraham, having patiently waited, obtained the promise” • Abraham’s patient faith revealed that God had committed His all to keeping His promise “For the promise to Abraham and his offspring that he would be heir of the world did not come through the law but through the righteousness of faith” Romans 4:13 The promise “depends on faith, in order that the promise may rest on grace and be guaranteed to all his offspring…to the one who shares the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all…” Romans 4:16

  6. I. We who take Refuge in God share confident hope for eternity. • God promises us we are forever His by committing all that He is to bring that to pass (verses 13-17) • God exalted Jesus Christ to anchor our hope in all that he is (verses 18-20)

  7. II. Hold fast to the anchor of our souls! “We who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us” for “God desired to show more convincingly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeable character of His purpose.”

  8. II. Hold fast to the anchor of our souls! How does He more convincingly show this? God gives… His word

  9. II. Hold fast to the anchor of our souls! How does He more convincingly show this? God gives… His Son

  10. II. Hold fast to the anchor of our souls! How does He more convincingly show this? God gives… An old man who faithfully & patiently waits nearly 3 decades a son as well

  11. II. Hold fast to the anchor of our souls! How does He more convincingly show this? God gives… A small church deliverance from a 3-decade reign of terror at just the right time and in a way that assures them it was His hand and His alone that brought it to pass

  12. II. Hold fast to the anchor of our souls! How does He more convincingly show this? God gives… A church the grace and wisdom to effectively walk thru the profoundly difficult change of having to close its school

  13. II. Hold fast to the anchor of our souls! How does He more convincingly show this? God gives… His refugees from the sinking ship of the present world-order, so soon to disappear, real hope for Eternity in the midst of the troubles the present world order brings

  14. II. Hold fast to the anchor of our souls! How does He more convincingly show this? God gives… “The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; He knows those who take refuge in Him” Nahum 1:7
