Hot and Cold Chamber: Things to consider while buying!

Hot and Cold Chambers are designed to support the testing of certain specimens in cooled or heated environment. They are designed in a certain way to control the temperatures and to stabilize them at a certain degree. Die casting is a process that is majorly performed using the hot and cold chambers. The equipments used in the industry for testing are generally large scaled. A lot of research and development from the buyer’s end is required to make the right choice with regards to the seller, type of chamber and the background of the seller. 1. Hot and Cold Chamber: Things to consider while buying!

  2. Introduction Hot and Cold Chambers are designed to support the testing of certain specimens in cooled or heated environment. Here are some things you can consider while buying a Hot and Cold Chamber:

  3. Temperature Control Temperature control is the most used function of the hot and cold chamber and basically drives all the controls and features. It is definitely of utmost importance to test whether the chamber has a stable temperature control system. It is also important to know if the chamber can fit the requirement of your tests and the temperatures required to perform those tests. Once this is taken care of, you are almost halfway through your testing process. This must give you an idea about how important temperature control is to a hot and cold chamber.

  4. Capacity and technical data The chamber size can be tweaked while manufacturing by most of the suppliers as per the customer's size & volume requirement. Most chambers offer high uniform load bearing capacity with a maximum of 100 Kg. The test space comes in various volumes ranging from 120 liter to 1000 liters. This gives you a flexibility to perform various tests. Humidity up to 95% RH is provided as a standard by most of the suppliers, so keep a check on that. Some suppliers also provide 98% RH on special demand from the customer.

  5. Construction The function and service of a chamber can be affected by various environmental factors during delivery, building/manufacturing and storage. For defining this feature you must be well versed with the test that you are to perform with the chamber; only then will you know the requirement of the dimensions of the chamber which will help you decide the size of the chamber. Also keep a check on inner surface and the outer surface of the chamber, you must also note if they are polished; if yes, then whether the polish suits the tests requirements or not.

  6. Factory-calibrated Ensure that the chamber that you are going to by is factory-calibrated. You can find out about this by using a resistance thermometer Pt 100 as per 1/3 DIN to measure the temperature and a 1/3 DIN resistance thermometer with cotton wick for measuring humidity or a capacitive humidity sensor. Once a chamber is factory-calibrated, which means it has passed all the basic checks and tests set by the manufacturer it ensure a very high reaction time for the complete system.

  7. Adheres to guidelines And finally we come to the safety guidelines. They are the very basic premise of chambers and lab instruments, hence it becomes important to select a chamber that adheres to the guidelines. Make sure the chamber has passed the stability tests as per the ICH guideline and the climate tests in which the climate in the chamber does not incur any change unless enforced manually.

  8. Conclusion Buying a chamber to perform tests in a laboratory is definitely not an action that is as frequent as buying grocery, so make sure that you do the right research and make the right choice!
