  18. Compressed Synthetic Aperture Radar Vishal M. Patel, Glenn R. Easley, Dennis M. Healy, Jr., Rama Chellappa September 11, 2010, IEEE Journal of Selected topics in Signal Processing University of Maryland researchers have developed a new data compression algorithm that is capable of producing a high-resolution synthetic aperture radar (SAR) terrain map while demanding significantly less data transfer than previous technologies. SAR is a type of radar in which a series of images are combined and processed to provide a single high-resolution image; it is the technology behind many of the strikingly beautiful, high-quality images of planet surfaces that have appeared in the last several years. In a typical application of SAR, a radar antenna is attached to a moving object, such as an airplane or a satellite, and radar pulses are continually sent out and recovered after bouncing off objects. The acquired data is then combined to yield an image…

  19. ITN was endorsed by five OUs at June 2010 OU series: TAB PSPB EAB MGAB PSC ITN was briefed at Public Visibility Summit, PSPB SPC, Panel of Editors and NIC meetings in April-May 2010 Brainstorming meeting was held 7-8 May 2010 Endorsements
