United Arab Emirates Historical Highlights -In February of 2009 the Dubai sold ten billion dollars to the UAE in order to ease liquidity problems. -In May of 2009 withdraws from plans for the Gulf of monetary union, dealing a blow to to further economic integration in the region. -In March of 2011 the UAE joins international military operation in Libya. - In July of 2013 Sixty-eight people are jailed on charges of planning to overthrow the government. The trial of 94 supporters of the Islah Islamic group began in January, and human rights groups criticized the court's failure to investigate allegations that the defendants were tortured. The other suspects were either acquitted or tried in absentia.

United Arab Emirates Historical Highlights -The country signed a military defense agreement with the U.S. in 1994 and one with France in 1995. -Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan was the founder of UAE and ruler of federation since 1971. He died in November of 2004. -The land was originally owned by people who were converted into Islam in the seventh century. -In 1962 oil is exported from Abu Dhabi for the first time. -In 1981 UAE is a founding member of the Gulf Cooperation Council, The first summit is held in Abu Dhabi. -In 2008 the UAE cancels the entire debt owed to it by Iraq. The debt was about seven billion dollars.

United Arab Emirates Historical Highlights -The UAE has been controlled by the Portuguese, the Ottoman and the British. -During the early 16th century the Portuguese were trying to get a trade route to the Indian Ocean, that meant going through Africa, Saudi Arabia, and the surrounding regions including present UAE. -In the 16th century the Ottoman Empire defeated the Portuguese navy several times and acquired the southern Saudi area where piracy became an issue for British control years later. -The British tried time after time to establish themselves in Gulf but between dealing with French, Russian, and other European countries and the Ottoman pirates they couldn’t get a strong enough foothold. -The Emirates finally got independence in 1971 after Britain ditched the protection agreement.

  8. Current Events- Ski Dubai Opened in November 2005, the indoor resort features an 85-meter-high indoor mountain with 5 slopes of varying steepness and difficulty, including a 400-metre-long run. Snow Park play area comprising sled and toboggan runs, an icy body slide, climbing towers, giant snowballs and an ice cave. Ski Dubai is also home to a number of penguins who come out to play several times a day. Penguin encounters can be booked, allowing the public to interact directly with the penguins.

Current Events-Formula Rossa Ferrari World's Formula Rossa ride blasts passengers from 0-149mph (240km/h) in just 4.9 seconds, with riders experiencing 4.8G during acceleration - G-forces only fighter pilots usually feel. Although we can stand up to 6G for very short periods of time, if we stay at a speed of 5G or more than 5 seconds, we are very likely to black out.

CulTure Many emirates have established museums of regional repute; most famously Sharjah with its Heritage District containing 17 museums, which in 1998 was the Cultural Capital of the Arab World. Abu Dhabi’s cultural foundation is also an important place for the presentation of indigenous and foreign art. In Dubai, the area of Al Quoz has attracted a number of art galleries. Yowla is a type of music and dance performed mainly in communities of Bantu Peoples from the African Great Lakes region.
