  6. Context • Cornwall has Objective One status which indicates that there is a level of acute disadvantage in the county which needs to be addressed. Some of the wards served by our school are among the poorest in the country. Cornwall is a relatively remote county, and this reduces the opportunities available to many students for travel and experience of the wider world. We have a growing proportion of students with special needs and we operate a policy of inclusion and equal opportunities • whereby students are not withdrawn from any area of the curriculum. Cornwall is experiencing an influx of Eastern European migrants seeking work in the area. Motivation • To raise students’ awareness of their place in the wider world, including the rest of the U.K. and Europe • To increase understanding and tolerance of people who are from different cultural and racial backgrounds. • To see migration as an enrichment to societies rather than a challenge • To increase skills of negotiation, collaboration and cooperation for staff and students and for us to build relationships with partners in other countries.
