  3. Lakeview’s Mission Lakeview Elementary will help students and parents set goals based on clear expectations, teach the curriculum, assess and monitor students’ progress, help students provide feedback and appropriate safety nets in preparation for a rigorous middle school curriculum.

  10. Report Cards • Progress reports each 3 weeks • Report cards each 6 weeks • Both are sent electronically unless specified in writing to the office.

  11. Physical Education for 3-5

  12. Workshop Model • Reading, Writing, Math, and Science all follow the workshop model. • Workshop model consists of an opening, work period, and a closing.

  13. Opening – The teacher introduces a topic, skill, or concept to the entire class. This gives the teacher an opportunity to model her expectations • Work Period – Students practice the skill while the teacher gives individual or small group assistance • Closing – Students share our their learning with the whole group. The students become the teacher.

Million Word Challenge • MWC will be tracked on sheet in reading journal/notebook • Reading log in Bobcat Binder for tracking at home reading • 25 chapter books on their reading level • On-level books are what counts • Kick off will be in October. • Books counted beginning August 26th. • More information will be sent home after kickoff

Math • Guided Math Groups within the work period of workshop • New Curriculum - Origo • Math expectations – show all thinking, ask questions when unsure, be an advocate for self. • Students should know their multiplication facts through 12 • Writing in math (note booking) • Big concepts taught at your grade level - Mathematical Process, Equivalence, Multiplication and division, geometry, algebraic thinking, measurement, place value, and data analysis

  17. Science • Workshop • New Science Book • Inquiry Process • Writing in Science/ notebooks/ Depth and Complexity icons • Science Processes, Physical Science, Earth and Space Science, Life Science

Social Studies • Our focus is the story of America. • Social Studies is integrated through both reading and writing. • DBQ – Document Based Questioning • Students use their reading strategies to analyze a series of primary and secondary sources to answer a guiding question. • We will complete two DBQ’s over the course of the year. • Probes

Home Practice • The purpose of homework is to reinforce concepts that have already been taught in class. • Homework should not be difficult for students because it is just practice. • Homework expectations – • Math 10 – 15 questions nightly Monday –Thursday (not put into grade book but discussed in class for misunderstandings and misconceptions, quiz will be given over homework weekly.) • Classwork not completed during given time can become homework. This should be finished at home and returned the next day unless otherwise indicated in Bobcat Binder.

  25. Lunch • 5th Grade lunch time 12:15 – 12:45 • Visitors are welcome for lunch with your child. Please sit at the guest table with your child. • Please work on your child eating within a 30 minute time frame and cleaning up after themselves.

  26. Birthdays • Store bought cupcakes or treats may be brought to the office. Treats will be sent to your students’ classroom to be shared the last 15 minutes of the day. • No peanut products please • Invitations are to passed out to the entire class • Including paper products as needed is greatly appreciated
