  2. Job searching in India has become tedious partly owing to the on-going COVID 19 pandemic and the economic downslide triggered by it. Those looking forward to campus placements have been put on hold, and people are seeking greener pastures in professional fronts are finding new openings elusive. So many companies have resorted to layoffs, and many companies have imposed pay cuts on the employees. This has made things excruciatingly hard both for job seekers and those who are already working. If this looks like a dark cloud looming large on the horizon, the silver lining has appeared! Technology giant Google, which is a big player in the Web Development sector, has come up with its own job searching an app to make things better. Recently, the technology behemoth brought its jobs app, rechristened Kormo Jobs, to India. It will act as a bridge between the employers and job seekers and offer the aspirants one more virtual platform to boost career prospects. Softgrid Computers

  3. A GLIMPSE INSIDE THE EVOLUTION OF KORMO APP Meant to help people, find entry-level jobs in India, Kormo Jobs was unveiled for the first time in 2018 in neighboring Bangladesh. It was made available in Indonesia too. In 2019, Google made it available as a Spot under the Google Pay app. This drew the attention of the employers in India, as per the company. Media sources report that brands like Zomato and Dunzo took an interest in the virtual platform for recruitment, and they posted jobs in huge numbers. Google has now rebranded Jobs Spot as Kormo Jobs for the sake of consistency. The standalone Android app will be offered in major overseas markets now onwards. Softgrid Computers

  4. It is quite natural that the new job searching app from Google will face steep competition from the established players in the segment, in India. Its main competitor will be Microsoft owned LinkedIn. The two technology giants have often been at loggerheads over competing products in segments like a web browser and online search. Regional players like Naukri and monsters will also put up a fight, as per the media sources. THE COMPANY IS UPBEAT ABOUT APP PROSPECTS However, the company is pretty optimistic about the prospects of this new app. Bickey Russell, who is the operations lead and regional manager of Kormo Jobs, said that the company would keep on enriching the app with new, useful features. He added that the job searching platforms also need enhanced features to let the employees and employers connect well in the pandemic situation. Brands in many sectors, including a midsized Web Development Company or fast expanding delivery service can find suitable talents using it. Softgrid Computers

  7. WHAT ELSE YOU GET The good thing about the Kormo app is it is not limited to job searching. It also offers content using which you can enhance your skillset. Just scroll down on its home UI, and you will see a section titled 'Learn new skills'. Explore this section to find out what might suit your specific career needs. Using the app, you can prepare a digital CV as well. Using the app, you can schedule interviews too. HOW DOES IT LOOK LIKE? The Google Kormo app has a sleek and uncluttered look, in sync with other apps from Google. The white and green-based UI is soothing to look at and has a fluid feel about it. Compared to its arch-rival LinkedIn, Kormo has a lighter footprint. It will occupy less than 7 MB on your device, giving it an edge over other rivals. This will be especially better for people who use entry-level android devices. The Google Play store shows download has exceeded 1 million already.

  8. Pros Ease of usage and simplicity of customization Minimal footprint compared to other competing apps It is a free app Comes with an inbuilt location tracking facility Offers additional services like skill development and CV builder Allows you to schedule interviews easily Supports as many as 11 languages Has direct support of Google Cons Meant only for Android device users Mandatory Google account sign up, no other option given

  9. WHY MAY IT GET AN EDGE OVER RIVALS? Frankly, there is no shortage of job portals in India, and each has its android app too. However, in some areas, the Kormo app is expected to get an edge over the rivals. The signup method, while minimal, is actually beneficial. As an Android user, you are most likely to have a Google account. So using no new id or password will be required. The rival job search portals like Naukri and monsters also offer additional services like resume builder. However, they typically do not offer such add-on services in the free package. You have to buy premium packages to avail such services. Kormo app is offering add-on services for free. The app UI is so fluid and uncluttered that it will not make new users uncomfortable. Being lightweight, it will load and run faster on entry-level devices. The most obvious advantage the app has that it comes from the stable of Google. Those already using Google online services like Gmail and Drive are likely to embrace it as a part of the ecosystem. Softgrid Computers

  10. SUMMING IT UP Overall, there are many things that Google gets right in Kormo app. It has been tested previously in other countries, and the response has been good. The new app gets a sleek and smooth UI. Setting it up is a breeze and customizing the profile enhances job search prospects. You can accomplish some relevant tasks apart from looking for jobs using the app for free. Those in Web Development and other sectors can surely give it a try. Resource
