HIV/AIDS: King of STI Evolution of prevalence in Cameroon • 1985: 1st case that is 1out of 200 person infected (0,5%) • 1987: 1out of 100 person infected (1%) • 2004: National prevalence 5,5% • 6,8% for women • 4,1 for men Out of 5 vpersons infected, 3 are women The age group must infected by HIV are youths between 15 and 39 years

Means of transmission • Through sex: unprotected sexual intercourse with one or more infected partners • Through Blood: Infected blood transfusion, shape object soiled with infected blood (Seringue, blade, knife, scissors… ), certain cultural criticism (scarification, tattooing, excision, manicure, pedicure) • Mother to child: During pregnancy, delivery and breast feeding • Poor hygiene: using common toilet tress, under wears, tooth brushes

  10. What to do when infected to STI? I must: • Go to the hospital • Informed my partner or partners • Take complete treatment • Respect rendez-vous given by doctor I must not • Do auto medication • seek advice for my neighbour • By drug by the road side • Have unprotected sexual intercourse • Take alcohol during treatment

  11. Consequences of STI • Chronicity • Spontaneous abortion • Still birth • Premature delivery • Congenital malformation (Blindness, cardiac and cerebral attacks, ) • Children with low birth weigh

  12. How to prevent STI? • Abstinence • Correct and systematic use of condom • Be faithful to one or more none infected partners (Case of polygamy)

  13. What to retain? • The earlier you kwon your status the better • STI’s are open door for the direct entry of HIV

  14. Difference between HIV and AIDS patient • HIV patient: Some body who does not present any sign of sickness • AIDS patient: Somebody who shows the signs and symptoms of sickness

  15. Reasons for spread • Lack of information • Afraid to do HIV test • Refusal to abstain • Poor use of condom

  16. Sharing of experience • Questions/answers • Experiences with family and entourage • Testimony from PLWHIV

  17. The need of HIV patient • Psychological, social and moral support • No to stigmatisation and rejected • Do not abandoned them • Share daily pleasures with them

  18. Some slogans • At first HIV was contracted by ignorance, do not contracted it by love • An HIV patient who knows his status is better than the one who does not know his status
