  2. Introduction to Surface hydrology procedures This training will be on: • Introduction to Spatial Analysis • Flood Zone statistics of the area • Flood Zone Analysis and find wet Homes

  3. 1. Introduction of Spatial Analyst • First load the Spatial Analyst • click on Tools > Extension • Check the box left to Spatial Analyst

  4. 2. Flood Zone Satistics • Given data: • Flood Zone Map • Landuse data of a city • Problem: • Insurance company and city planners wants to locate buildings and other assets susceptible to flood damage by examining flood zone areas.

  5. Add land use Map

  6. Add Flood Map Flood raster map Flood map on top of landuse map

  7. Change Symobology of landuse map • Double click on landuse map • Click on Symbology tab • Select unique values • Scroll value fields as Landue type2 • Click Add All Values

  11. Use the chart to answer these questions • What are the land use types in the flood zone? _________________ • Which one has the greatest area in the flood zone? _________________ • Which zoning type is most likely to contain homes? _________________

  12. 3. Flood zone analysis to find wet homes • Create a chart which will serve as a planning tool to identify data used or created and record each task to be performed. Flood Map Query Wet Home Map Query Landuse Residential

  13. Find residential zone Residential area has zone value = 3

  14. Find only residential area • Type [landuse] == 3 • Click Evaluate will create map of residential area and rename it as “Residential”

  15. Flood Zone Analysis • Execute following Query using Raster calculator [flood] & [Residential] • Click on Evaluate. It will create wet homes map. Rename the raster map as “Wet Homes”

  18. Conclusion • The wet homes contains residential areas inside the flood zone. • These parcels could be targeted for flood insurance. • City planners could also use this information for disaster planning services.
