Items • Items for discussion and decision: • Programme review: population and housing censuses; • Crime statistics; • National accounts; • Agricultural statistics; • Environmental-economic accounting; • Environment statistics; • Energy statistics; • Statistics for economies based on natural resources; • Information and communications technology statistics; • National quality assurance frameworks; • Implementation of the Fundamental Principles of Official Statistics; • Coordination of statistical activities in the United Nations; • Efforts in developing a plan of action on statistical development; • Statistics of human development; • Regional statistical development in Europe

Recommendations • Items for information • Gender statistics; • Washington Group on Disability Statistics; • International merchandise trade statistics; • Statistics of international trade in services; • Finance statistics; • International Comparison Programme; • Ottawa Group on Price Indices; • Coordination and integration of statistical programmes; • International economic and social classifications; • Development indicators; • Follow-up to Economic and Social Council policy decisions; • Global geospatial information management; • World Statistics Day.

Proposal • Items for discussion : • (a) Programme review: population and housing censuses (Senegal) • (d) Agricultural statistics (Cameroon) • (k) Implementation of the Fundamental Principles of Official Statistics (African Charter on Statistics – South Africa) • (m) Efforts in developing a plan of action on statistical development (SHaSA – BAPS (i) – Côte d’Ivoire); Busan Plan of Action for Statistics: (i) implementing statistical strategies according to national priorities; (ii) facilitating public access to data through standards and new technologies; (iii) increasing knowledge and skills needed to use statistics effectively; (iv) global summits to recognizing the need for national statistical capacity and (v) ensuring financing is robust and funding mechanisms responsive;

Proposal • Items for discussion : • (i) International Comparison Programme (Harmonization of CPIs - Botswana) • What s expected from selected countries : • Two-page report on Africa position on the item • Deadline: 31st January 2012 • To be sent to ECA which will discussed it be shared with AfDB, AUC and some countries • Report be made available to all participants in UN StatCom

  8. Recommendations • Members • Each member to introduce one of the selected items based on a common position to be prepare by identified countries • AfDB • To sponsor countries (by sub-region) • All Partners • To (partially) sponsor UN StatCom members that will received only tickets from UNSD

Recommendations (to be contd.) • Next participation in UN StatCom • ECA to consult on priority items for Africa • Selected countries to prepare a two-page report on identified items • Reports to be shared and finalized • Group of UN StatCom members and other participating countries to meet at any gathering of NSO DGs prior to the UN StatCom session • Africa position on selected items will be then finalized • Each Un StatCom members then will be responsible for introducing one item ** *Dealine will be point on these steps in compliance with the UN StatCom procedures
