  3. What tools are being used? • Pulse Smartpen and Livescribe Notebook • 3D Recordable Headset • Computer and Livescribe Desktop Technology • Internet and Livescribe Online

What is a Pencast? • A Pencast is a live version of your hand-written notes and audio. • A Pencast is a recording that can be played using your Smartpen or computer. • A Pencast is an Adobe flash movie that can be uploaded to your Livescribe Online Website and shared with others. • A Pencast is a creative way to share informa- tion with your students and colleagues.

  7. emailing a Pencast • Create your Pencast. • Transfer it to your Livescribe Desktop (Computer). • Upload it to Livescribe Online using Share/ Page 00 from Notebook/With Online Community. • Select Pages & Audio, type a Pencast Name, select Share. • Open Livescribe Online and select Make it Public. • Send the email using the Email a Friend! option of Livescribe Online.

Inserting a Pencast into a MyMathLab Discussion Posting • Create your Pencast, transfer it to Livescribe Desktop, upload it to Livescribe Online, Make it Public. • Select Embed This File, highlight and copy the HTML coding, select Done. • Open your MyMathLab course and select Discussion Board/Add Forum. • Give your Discussion Posting a Title, type a Description, and paste the HTML coding into the body of the Discussion posting. • Preview and Submit.

Inserting a Pencast into a MyMathLab Announcement • Create your Pencast, transfer it to Livescribe Desktop, upload it to Livescribe Online, Make it Public. • Select Get a Link to this File, highlight and copy the link, select Done. • Open your MML course and select Control Panel/MML Home Manager/Create Announcement. • Type a Title and type the Body of your Announcement. • Open the Hyperlink Manager, the Type is http, paste the link URL, type the name of your pencast as the Link Text, select Target/New Window, click OK. • Select Save and Email or Save.

  10. Why are Pencasts helpful for students? • Visual and audio input help to create brain connectors. • Oddly, students are comforted by their own instructor’s voice. • If mama’s happy, then everybody’s happy?

  11. Are there other uses for the Smartpen Technology? • Record notes and audio of a meeting or lecture. • Share teaching tips* and techniques with colleagues. • Record basketball plays* and email them to the players.
