  3. Impact on learners • The cost of learning • The length of time to learn • The language skills/capabilities of individuals • The additional barriers for women

  4. Impact on providers • Entry 1 learners stay 3 times as long Entry 2 learners stay twice as long • Implications for staffing, planning provision • Recruiting new learners • Is blended learning an option in order to keep provision affordable?

  5. The test • Learners without IT skills or access to IT • Learners with low levels of literacy • A case for preparation courses for the test?

  6. The language level • Is passing a B1 (Entry 3) speaking and listening exam beyond some learners? • ALTE ‘can do’ statements for B1: ‘Can express opinions on abstract/cultural matters in a limited way or offer advice within a known area, and understand instructions or public announcements.’
