  1. Main Task Evaluation By Paul Solomon- Turay

  2. In What Ways Does Your Media Product Use, Develop or Challenge Forms And Conventions of Real Media Products? • My main task involved me doing a lot of editing which included: adding music, transitions, and sound effects. • My main task has also been burned onto a DVD, in order to play on computers and DVD players. I have included a menu for navigation and images of the video onto the DVD. • These are things that my media task uses as conventions for a real media product

  3. How Does Your Media Product Represent Particular Social Groups? • As we used a female as our main character, this immediately gives the audience a perception that this is a thriller. This is because in most thrillers, women have been stereotyped to be the victim’s of attack. • We have also used a male character to portray the role of stalker/murderer; as this is typical in the majority of thrillers. • Age also played a factor in representing social groups, as young women are always portrayed as weak and defenceless in thriller genre films.

  4. What Kind of Media Institution Might Distribute Your Media Product And Why? • Some media institutions that will sell my product are: Amazon, HMV, Play and EBay • These media institution will distribute my product because my target audience usually buy similar items at these places. These online retailers have competitive prices and the audience is able to obtain my product easily.

  5. Who would be the audience for your media product? How did you attract/address your audience ? • The target audience for my thriller is mainly for teenagers, but also for anybody who is fascinated by the thriller genre. • We attracted our audience by using stereotypical characters, and editing skills in order to make the media product seem as close and realistic to other professional thrillers. We used characters that closely represented our target group.

  6. What have we learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? • As we were doing our filming, we learnt that different camera angles and shots are used for different purposes and are used to emphasis different situations. E.G. A low angle shot is used to make a particular person/object look large and enforcing. A high angle shot makes a person/object seem small and weak. • Our class went to a City Learning Centre (CLC) and we learned how to edit films. We used Imovie software in order to create our films and we learned how to: add transitions, add music, add text and burn it on to a DVD.

  7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do youfeel youhave learnt in the progression from it to the full product? • From looking back at my preliminary task, to the completion of my main task, I feel that I have learned how to use different camera shots and angles effectively; in order to portray a certain aspect in a scene. • I have also learnt how to add menus and relevant sound effects in order to give my main task a greater sense of realism; in the sense that it is similar to other thriller openings.
