  5. HOME | OBJECTIVES | WELCOME | PROJECT SCOPE | TASKS | HELP Welcome About TeamWeb2 | Your First Project

  6. HOME | OBJECTIVES | WELCOME | PROJECT SCOPE | TASKS | HELP Hi, I’m Theresa. Welcome to the TeamWeb2 development team!

  7. HOME | OBJECTIVES | WELCOME | PROJECT SCOPE | TASKS | HELP About TeamWeb2 More and more new clients are asking for websites where they can “blog, facebook and twitter." The agency needs interns to support web development in this area – and fast! TeamWeb2 specializes in leveraging Web 2.0 Internet technologies for our clients’ websites.

  8. HOME | OBJECTIVES | WELCOME | PROJECT SCOPE | TASKS | HELP Your First Project We have been selected to build a multi-page website for an important client in San Francisco. They’ve told us that they've heard a lot about "Web 2.0" and "Social Media." In our initial meeting with the client, lots of ideas were bounced around: online video, images of people and products, maps, social networking, online docs, news, even Twitter!

  9. HOME | OBJECTIVES | WELCOME | PROJECT SCOPE | TASKS | HELP Your First Project (cont.) They have a really small budget, but we can’t pass up the opportunity to build this high profile site for them. It will give our new team really great exposure! Our team has decided to build the client a website using free Web 2.0 and social media tools and technologies. Put on your thinking cap and come to the kickoff meeting ready to get started.

  10. HOME | OBJECTIVES | WELCOME | PROJECT SCOPE | TASKS | HELP PROJECT SCOPE An overview of your project

  11. HOME | OBJECTIVES | WELCOME | PROJECT SCOPE | TASKS | HELP The project scope has several components: assembling a team, developing expertise, selecting a platform, building the site and presenting the finished project to the client.

  12. HOME | OBJECTIVES | WELCOME | PROJECT SCOPE | TASKS | HELP Assembling our Team We've hired a great group of interns. Our first order of business will be to figure out how we'll function as a team: we'll determine what roles are required for this kind of project, assess our skills to assign roles and allocate talent, and then finally make a project plan to set expectations for working together. Together we'll figure out what's needed and decide how to move forward.

  13. HOME | OBJECTIVES | WELCOME | PROJECT SCOPE | TASKS | HELP Develop Web 2.0 Expertise The Web is a big topic, and Web 2.0 can mean different things to different clients. We'll undertake a research and analysis project to get started. We need to ensure that we have a good handle on this aspect of the Web so we can make exciting, modern and relevant recommendations to our clients.

  14. HOME | OBJECTIVES | WELCOME | PROJECT SCOPE | TASKS | HELP Select a Platform We won't hand-code websites here! Instead, like many other companies, we will leverage web publishing platforms to create amazing multi-page websites. This is often how modern websites get built. We'll evaluate a select a web publishing platform to best suit our clients' needs. We'll create page templates and a features list for client approval too.

  15. HOME | OBJECTIVES | WELCOME | PROJECT SCOPE | TASKS | HELP Build the Site Once we select a platform, we'll be ready to develop a multi-page, content rich, professional looking website. We'll use our technical skills to build out the site and implement the features selected by the client.

  16. HOME | OBJECTIVES | WELCOME | PROJECT SCOPE | TASKS | HELP Present to the Client Finally, we'll make presentations to the client. There will be lots to show! The site of course, how the features were implemented, and also anything details the client will need for administering and maintaining the site.

  17. HOME | OBJECTIVES | WELCOME | PROJECT SCOPE | TASKS | HELP Ready to get started? Your tasks are waiting for you!

  18. HOME | OBJECTIVES | WELCOME | PROJECT SCOPE | TASKS | HELP TASKS AND ASSIGNMENTS Please complete all the steps to the tasks, and refer back to your Working in Teams and Working with Tasks overviews if you run into any obstacles.

  19. HOME | OBJECTIVES | WELCOME | PROJECT SCOPE | TASKS | HELP • Assembling Your Team • In the first task, students will actively create their teams. They will brainstorm what it means to be a good team and start to think about the roles needed on their team. Based on this, the students will do a self-assessment to indicate what they think they might be good at. They will write Want Ads for team members who have different skills and then do mock job interviews to assess the skills they think other students have. The result will be your team for the development of the website.

  20. HOME | OBJECTIVES | WELCOME | PROJECT SCOPE | TASKS | HELP • Overview • Your group will create a multi-page website for the agency's client. Your group will decide the topic or theme for the site, but please make it robust enough that you aren't limited by content. An upcoming project or event can be a good choice, as would promoting a new company, product or celebrity, providing a central resource for a department within an organization (like the Web, IT, or training group), or building a site for an event or show.

  21. HOME | OBJECTIVES | WELCOME | PROJECT SCOPE | TASKS | HELP • Overview (cont.) • You will build the entire site using the Wordpress platform and any other free Web 2.0 tool and technology you identify. Be as creative as possible. • To help get you started, here are some sample websites that incorporate Web 2.0 and social media: • City and county of San Francisco: • http://www.sfgov.org/ • Comp TIA: http://www.comptia.org/home.aspx • BlogHer: http://www.blogher.com/

  22. HOME | OBJECTIVES | WELCOME | PROJECT SCOPE | TASKS | HELP • Requirements • Meet with your group. Your major assignments for this task are to: • Select a topic for the website. The topic is up to the group. It should be broad enough that the group will have plenty of content to include in the site. • Research Web 2.0 and social media to determine what features to include in the website. • Design and build a multi-page website using Wordpress.

  23. HOME | OBJECTIVES | WELCOME | PROJECT SCOPE | TASKS | HELP • Requirements (cont.) • Do an Internet search on Web 2.0 and social media. What tools and technologies are available on the Internet that can be used in developing this website? • Create an account at Wordpress.com. Use Wordpress to create a multi-page website that incorporates Wordpress with other Web 2.0 technologies and social media features such as video, maps, RSS or news feeds, links to sites like Twitter or Facebook, or other features.

  24. HOME | OBJECTIVES | WELCOME | PROJECT SCOPE | TASKS | HELP • Requirements (cont.) • When the website is complete, critically review the site as a group. Make improvements or changes as needed. • When the website is finished, present the site as a group and demonstrate the site's features and functionality.

  25. HOME | OBJECTIVES | WELCOME | PROJECT SCOPE | TASKS | HELP • Resources • Learn pages from Wordpress.com • http://learn.wordpress.com/get-started/ • Support pages from Wordpress.com • http://en.support.wordpress.com/ • Using Wordpress for Websites • http://codex.wordpress.org/User:Lastnode/Wordpress_CMS • Examples of websites based on Wordpress • http://wordpress.org/showcase/tag/cms/ • Wordpress: Posts vs. Pages • http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/

  26. HOME | OBJECTIVES | WELCOME | PROJECT SCOPE | TASKS | HELP • Debrief • Discuss the planning and revision phases of your website. What changes did you implement in your site after the first mock-up? How did this improve your website? • Share your experiences with Wordpress as a web development tool. What features of Wordpress did you use to create the multi-page website?

  27. HOME | OBJECTIVES | WELCOME | PROJECT SCOPE | TASKS | HELP • Debrief (cont.) • How did your group determine roles for the project? What was successful when it came to working as a group? Is there anything you would do differently next time? How did your team reach consensus? • What is Web 2.0? How is different or the same as social media? What resources did you to help you understand Web 2.0 and social media? What Web 2.0 Internet technologies did your group include in your website?

  28. HOME | OBJECTIVES | WELCOME | PROJECT SCOPE | TASKS | HELP • Debrief (cont.) • Rate your group presentation. How did your team plan and carry out the presentation? What went well? What would you do differently next time?
