  3. At first she tried to re-establish bonds with friends….was quite content with her lot.” (Benchley 18) The predation is not only towards other people in Amity, this quote show how Ellen is also predatory towards herself in a way.

  4. “I’m sorry, Larry, I can’t. I wouldn’t be doing my job…..the selectman have the power to remove you.” (Benchley 44) There’s obvious animosity between Brody and Mayor Vaughan. This is just another example of Vaughan worrying only of the business side of things instead of the safety of the tourists and residents of Amity.

  5. “’I’m aware of that to say the very least’…..’Not a fucking chance.’” (Benchley 95-96) The animosity between Brody and Vaughan is very clear. At this point, Brody is sick of Vaughan talking only of losing business and stands up to keep the beaches closed.
