  1. Engineering Design Process Science Class August 29th, 2016

  2. Bellringer • A respirator is a mechanical device that helps people breathe when their lungs are unable to do so. Which type of bioengineered product is a respirator? • A. Biofuel • B. Adaptive device • C. Assistive Device • D. Prototype

  3. Learning Target • I can apply the engineering design process to construct a prototype that meets certain specifications.

  4. Plan for Today • You are going to use the engineering design process to engineer a type of technology today. • Remember the step of the EDP… • What are these steps?

  5. The Engineering Design Process. • Determine the Problem • Conduct Research • Design Solutions • Build Prototype • Test Prototype • Redesign

  6. Watch and Learn

  7. What did you learn? • What are some things that you noticed these students did while designing a prototype? • What are some things you plan on using while YOU complete the engineering design process? • What do you think about the inventions they came up with?

  8. Get Ready… • Using the sheet that has been given to you for the assignment today. • Follow each step while creating your own prototype. MAKE SURE TO FOLLOW DIRECTIONS!!!!! • You will be presenting your project to the class tomorrow, so make sure to complete the assignment to the best of your abilities. • Good luck! 

  9. Switch!!!! • Switch papers with your partner and try to answer the following questions in your composition book. • What is the problem this person is trying to solve? • Did they think up enough ideas to solve this problem before they narrowed it down to one solution? Why or why not? • Do you think their plan will work? Why or why not? • Have the followed the proper steps of the engineering design process? Prove it.

  10. Summarizer • How many steps have you completed for your engineering design process? • What was the problem or challenge you decided to fix? • Is this a problem you have personally or a problem you have notices other people have? • Which step did you find to be the most difficult? Explain why?

  11. Engineering Design Process Science Class August 30th, 2016

  12. August 30 BellringerGLE: 0607.T/E.2 Know that the engineering design process involves an ongoing series of events that incorporate design constraints, model building, testing, evaluating, modifying, and retesting. • Unintended consequences are? • A. a tool designed to make people’s lives easier. • B. the development of technology to help living organisms. • C. results the designer did not want to occur. • D. results the designer did not plan on occurring.

  13. GLE: 0607.T/E.2 Know that the engineering design process involves an ongoing series of events that incorporate design constraints, model building, testing, evaluating, modifying, and retestingRegroup • Starting from where you left off yesterday, wrap up your engineering design process and get ready to present! • Make sure that you are ready to discuss each step you went through in order to design your new invention.

  14. GLE: 0607.T/E.2 Know that the engineering design process involves an ongoing series of events that incorporate design constraints, model building, testing, evaluating, modifying, and retestingLet’s Present • What is the problem you wanted to try and solve? • Why did you choose this problem? • What are some of the different ideas you came up with to solve this problem. • What made you choose this particular solution? • What materials would you need to design this invention? • How could you test your design? • What do you think you could do to improve your design?

  15. GLE: 0607.T/E.2 Know that the engineering design process involves an ongoing series of events that incorporate design constraints, model building, testing, evaluating, modifying, and retestingSummarizer • In your composition book, tell me which invention out of the class you liked the best? • What did you like about using the EDP? • What was the hardest part of using the EDP? • How can you use the EDP in the future (in your own life)?
